I'm in chat all alone. Anyone else want to join? You do have to accept the untrusted Java App, since we don't have a certificate. But once you do, it works. For reference, I'm doing it on archlinux, with icedtea-web-7.
So...I am on windows 7. It poppped up asking if I trust this site n what not. I accepted and it then said it has been blocked anyways? Chat shows up as "Error. Click for details". Clicking it brings up this thing:
http://gyazo.com/ce575c5fbf6b075d064fd199ca762817
All the buttons don't really do anything so I tried lowering my java secruity settings using this:
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/jcp_security.xml
Putting it on medium didn't make a difference. Not sure what to do at this point
Closing Firefox and choosing "remember and allow" "accept" made it work this time.
Cool!
I'm afk for another ten to fifteen minutes.
Ohhh people, hurry up and come to chat before the funny bugs are fixed! ;)

Going to your Java control panel, then to the security tab and adding carnageblender.com as an exception should allow it to run in most any browser. At least it does for me in chrome.
I tried to add it but it didn't input it or something...

First time didn't work for me either, I had to make sure and hit enter after typing
http://www.carnageblender.com/ in. After that I clicked OK at it ran fine.
Guess I will give it another go, thanks Newlin!
If anyone knows how to code-sign the applet for free, please let me know. They you won't need those workarounds.

All I had to hit was "allow" and it works for me.
I totally went on a cussing streak when I was alone in chat tonight. I thought it would be satisfying, being impossibly vulgar on CB, in chat, when I used to fear the consequences so much.
Now I just feel empty
my firewall just doesnt allow it so no chat for me

you can go into control panel, under java, under security and put the site into exceptions. if you don't have exceptions under security, you need to download the x64 version of java. no idea how it goes for mac or linux (or whatever you got :P) though.
Ok, so the first big task we're taking on as a team is the chat. While the current java one works, it's not really usable. Chat is an integral part of the game, so that has to work. As some of you may know, the CB chat server is something called NFCCHAT. We're going to interface to that through some new whiz-bang javascript that Verifex and PixelSage are working on. Watch this space for details!

Awesome! I'm looking forward to it!
That's awesome! Can't wait :)
My computer won't even acknowledge the fact that i'm trying to open it. Very sad considering a 2k+ comp... :/
Nevermind, i finally got it to open and work correctly :)
Yeah, the old chat is kind of a sad state. Even if users could deal with the untrusted app thing, the app itself doesn't work right. You have to manually clear the text entry box after sending a message, which was never the case before.
The new chat is coming along nicely. I built a thing that allows you to connect to it from a browser in pure javascript, so java on the client side isn't required (though still possible if you wanted to for instance use the standalone java client I wrote a few years ago). Now we just need to make a pretty interface instead of the archaic one I'm using to test things.
Just to update you guys... we now have a working gateway using JS to the existing chat server that's provided using the existing CB web server. This is a huge step. All of the commands back and forth are implemented, and now we just need to plug in Pixel's fancy new UI!

I just finished the UI.
Definitely feels lacking without access to chat.

I'm the only one in the chat atm, who will join me? D:
You can certainly access the old chat, but the new chat will be far more integrated. The prototypes work, now it's just a matter of integrating Pixel's cool sleek frontend (that actually looks really good compared to the rest of CB) with the backend that I wrote. We're having some difficulty in that area, but we'll get through it :)
And actually, the new chat is already a lot more secure. The old one was not very safe with respect to moving passwords around. I came up with a much better way of doing that.

Hey everyone! Just an update. We're very close to getting the new chat out. We just ran into a snag that we're hopefully resolving soon. I'm working with the guys, and hopefully we'll hammer out the issues. It may take a bit of time to code up and test, since it actually requires updating some core code of the website. We're removing some legacy code. Hope it works!
