CB Folding@Home Team <-- Join Up! (in Off-topic)

Folding@home is a distributed computing project (similar to the SETI@home project) except that instead of looking for E.T., they are studying how proteins fold which has various applications in medicine.

Basically you download a program and it runs in the background using the computer cycles that you aren't actively using.

I have a CB team (3 members currently) and we are ranked 5683 of 35542...we can do better than THAT! So if you want to join and/or want more information, go to http://folding.stanford.edu, sign up, and help us out! The team ID is 41446. Thanks... now fold those proteins!

Yeah but if we find ET then maybe he will used his advanced computer to do the, erm, folding, in like 0.0002 of a second :p

Xenko January 10 2005 10:30 PM EST

But if that 0.0002 seconds is, say, 1,000,000 years from now, this method could be much, much faster.

i think i joined the team, but it doesn't show me there yet :P.

Xenko January 10 2005 10:41 PM EST

It won't show you as part of the team until you have completed one WU (work unit). Once you have, then you'll show up.

MoeDrippins January 10 2005 10:49 PM EST

Heck of a worthy cause; I just joined my already existing machine(s) to this team.

Xenko January 10 2005 10:51 PM EST

I like that (s) after machine Moe :D Thanks for joining up :P

Blarg January 10 2005 10:53 PM EST

Salketer [big bucks] January 10 2005 11:20 PM EST

that's awesom :) i just installed it on my personnal PC.

Working on installing it on the Ghost used for all PC's at college (at least 78 PC are way overpowered :D )

Xenko January 11 2005 11:35 AM EST

Lol.... that's crazy Salketer!

Xenko January 13 2005 10:22 PM EST

Up to 6 people on the team... I know more of you want to join...!

Xenko January 18 2005 9:03 PM EST

Well, 1 week after the original posting, here is how much we improved:
Users - From 3 to 8!
Ranking - From 5,683 of 35,542 to 4,473 of 35,713!

We've gone up over 1,000! ranks. Go CB.

I know more that 8 CBers have computers (in fact, I'm pretty sure they all do) so come fold some proteins! You can even fold WHILE you play CB... what have you got to lose?

stoner14 January 18 2005 9:12 PM EST

i joined =D

Fire Upon Heaven January 18 2005 9:14 PM EST

ah. i leave my computer on 24/7, maybe i should join too. heh

AdminQBVerifex January 18 2005 9:29 PM EST

I'm already on folding... but I like Boinc for seti@home better :)

Tailz January 19 2005 12:06 AM EST

I'm one of the original 3. Folding at home, when I researched what it all meant, is actually working on how proteins fold in the body. The work unit i'm on right now is working on how HIV mutates proteins. This could lead to possibly a cure or a better medicine out there. The more you know how it happens the better it is to help correct. Really worthy cause and I haven't seen it slow down my computer at all.

Alright, since last week:

Members:
Last Week: 8
This Week: 8

Ranking:
Last Week: 4,473
This Week: 3,769

Come on and join up to help a worthy cause.
