I was just about to trade away my hard leather cap now that I have a cabasset, but first I decided to do some math to see future upgrade costs:

According to this, the HLC is *cheaper* to upgrade than cabassets. (!!!) Now I'm wondering which to ditch.

Keep the cab. It'll be worth more in resale terms in the future.

Just to show how much - a base HLC and a base cab in auctions. The cab is there for 3 times the price of the HLC.

Considering I already net more than the difference in cost with 300 BA fighting, I'm not really worried about resale value. I'm wondering which to upgrade.

Stick with the HLC then, you're only losing 1 point of ac by doing that; which looking at the upgrade prices you're pretty much gaining by the difference in price anyway! =)

keep the cab. You're never going to go past say, +7 or 8 and so the extra upgrade costs (10-20k) are worth the point extra that you gain in the base AC.

Keep them both. Create a farm and use your least favorite on one of the minions there. It will pay for itself in time...
