Anyone remember back in the day... (in General)

Destluck January 23 2005 5:11 PM EST

Back when you could buy the best items with actual money you made in the game, farming off some random farm. Back before USD took over, and now the rich kids and adults can put to shame the people like myself, who can't afford to invest large sums of money into a game that has no point and no end.....

I do, and I understand that these days will never come back. Back when the game was good for a game, and not an investment. Back when supportership was a one time deal of giving a bunch of guys a named Glaive of Pain or naming a couple of weapons. Those days are long gone, and I miss them quite a bit.....

I'm just wondering how many people exist from the days long past, back before you could sell out, then buy back in. The worst thing to do back then was to merge with someone, and even all that did was give you a little more playing time. There were no bought chars, or exchange of sums of USD that are higher than the money you start with ingame (even with referal bonus).

Its a shame that these days ARE long gone. Its even more a shame that about 2 months from now, the top 5 characters, at least one of them will sell their character to some new player, to make them the best without them having to do any work, just because their mom and dad make easy sums of money.

Yay for the whinage.

Speaking as an adult...

You sound like my 94 year old Gran.

Times move on my man ;)

Speaking as someone who hasn't ever spent $1 in CB1 or CB2, not even for suportership I have to say that I disagree.

Yes it's a shame it's not "fair", we can't compete with someone who on their first day buys a 100k PR character but no that's not a problem, if you're just wanting to play and not be the next Spid then it shouldn't really bother you that others are getting ahead. If you are trying for top spot, it doesn't come from USD, UC and DD spells are great ways to even it up, also if you're buying BA every day and making sure to use wacky times to your advantage then you'll find yourself getting close to the top few.
I think it's good that people can sell out for USD when they get bored of the game, I think that's a good thing, don't think anyone will complain about getting a few hundred dollars for playing a game, and big deal if someone buys a big character, if they're new then chances are that it'll find itself droping further down the list of charactes. If they aren't, well they've put that much into the game that they deserve an advantage.

Basically, if you have USD to spend, by all means put it into the game and yes you will get an advantage but no, that's not enough to make it impossible for others who haven't spent any money on the game to beat you.

Every USD someone spends to buy equipment is more equipment the previous person doesn't have. It evens out. The seller stays low, and buyer gets high (no pun intended, sorry). So? I haven't spent a dime, and what I'm lagging behind everyone else I attribute to bad planning and a poor start.

dest, I have not used any cash (except supporter fee), and I have not even used money from cb1 like some players are able. just gotta fight, then no need to whine. then again, i not even close to the top yet...ha ha. maybe you are right. :)

I wouldn't say that Cougars is doing bad.. buy the two minions, you're lacking, and you are in the absolute top PR

i remember back then...<remembers>

AdminJonathan January 23 2005 8:26 PM EST

I remember when Destluck said CB's best days were behind it... in 2002.

MrC [DodgingTheEvilForgeFees] January 23 2005 8:35 PM EST

Chet, please don't say you're nowhere near the top because you're closer than me ;)

[Redneck RV] Truc January 23 2005 8:44 PM EST

I do indeed miss those days, but...

Back in my Battlefaeries days I found it necessary to ignore certain players in the rankings. This was because of rampant cheating (bots).

Here in CB I try to identify those who play/chat/trade in a manner that I respect, and disregard others.

Figure out who you despise and who you respect...compete with your peers.

This approach, while imperfect, gives me satisfaction.

QBsutekh137 January 23 2005 9:21 PM EST

moose, you going to give me some cash...lol I can't even get one right now, much less two.

Destluck January 23 2005 9:21 PM EST

I remember when Jon banned Destluck for saying CB's best days were behind it in 2003.

AdminJonathan January 23 2005 11:13 PM EST

I don't remember banning you, but I do have a policy of baning flaming idiots when they make it clear they're not learning from milder discipline.

Destluck January 24 2005 1:05 AM EST

Yes, I recall that, I also recall a time when people were capable of constructive criticism instead of indirect insults.

Its great to be back Jon. I'm amazed at the game you have made

Oh and Jon, I apologize for instigating a fight with you on here. I don't want to flare your temper against me, I do enjoy playing this game, and the "complaints" I make can be viewed as pointless, but I try to present a valid point.

Once again, this is an awesome game Jon. And I'm done posting any fighting words.
