Clan score explained, tat rentals ?'s (in General)

sasquatchan February 1 2005 6:58 PM EST

I'm a slow learner, so help me out here..

I'll ask the easy question first. I know I could experimentally discover the answer, I don't want to encourage the tattoo renters, nor rent mine out. If one puts a tattoo up for rental, does it gain experience while worn by the renter ?

(seems like dirty work, paying to level up someone else's tattoo.. I recall the fees being upped, but never saw anything about this)

Clan scoring.. Man, I've read the FAQ (not much there), help (fair amount there) and Max's thread where Myth and a few others tried to explain it all. And I still don't get it..

You get 3 points for beating a ranked clan. But that 3 points may be adjusted if the clan falls out of ranking. (Or so I read Myth's post ) Does that go both ways ? (ie lose a point if they fall out, gain a point if they fall in ?)

Can clan admins see the PR penalty ? Is the penalty capped ?

I assume the PR max floats with number of clans, highest PR, etc etc ?

How's the score/raw score calculated ? Experimentally, it doesn't look like "add up all the earned points, and subtract the lost points", but with a 1 hour update window, which numbers should be believed ? Hard to follow.

I guess the short question is, as of maybe 3 pm today, my clan had earned over 9000 points, and lost some 5200 points. Yet our score/raw was around 2000. I'm just curious how the heck that all is figured out, since I can't find a clear explanation... (ie is that all PR penalty ?) Or is it meant to be a mystery ?

yes, tattoos gain levels while being rented. I do have a tattoo in rentals at this time, but it's going to be very soon before it's not worth it for me to do so, i believe.

As far as i know, you can't see the lost points directly.
In the clan page, just the top deductors are listed not all.
I can only calculate the lost points as (points of all clanmembers) - raw score, but that's exactly opposite as you do?

It is probably more accurate to say that you don't lose points, you gain 'negative' points. The points you gain (positive and negative) are calculated based on rankings at the time of the fight. Once gained, they remain for 24 hours Subsequent changes to clan rankings do not affect the points you already have. Either Mythology is wrong, or he has some information I managed to miss.

The scores listed on the clan page are all of the positive points gained by clan members, and the (24 - number of clan members) highest 'negative point' earners against your clan. Any number of players may earn your clan 'negative points', but there's only room to display those that do the most damage.

The PR penalty isn't visible anywhere. I can't remember much about it. The PR cap floats, yes.

Yes, the PR penalty is visible -- it is the ratio of score:raw score on your clan page.

Thanks, everyone, for filling me in.

So the "points taken away" box only shows the top few, not exhaustive. That helps explain the different. And the ratio of score to raw score is where one can figure out what the PR penalty is. (Finally, I understand what the score/raw score numbers mean!)

Is there a firm answer on the 3 points/2 points question ? I'd like to think that if you got 3 points for beating a clanner while the clanner was ranked, you keep the 3 points, even if later on the clanner falls out of rankings. But, with stats updating every hour, that's a very hard thing to verify experimentally.

Don't forget the "delete non 3-point clan" option when editing your fight list. It will take the latest clan rankings and drop people who are not 3 pointers. It's more reliable than looking at the cached clan rankings, since the cached top clan list differs from each clan's ranking on each clan's page. Now if you fight someone who you thought was a 3 pointer but didn't use the link to clear your fight list, you only get 2 points.

Actually, I'm curious about which is more accurate -- on my drop down fight list, I've had char's that aren't listed as being in a clan anymore (no 'c' by their name), yet when I go to edit my fight list page, they are shown as still in a clan.

Inspecting the char shows them as not in a clan, so I've assumed the drop down list is right and the edit list is wrong. (Usually, remove-non-clan option does clear them, but that's now the first thing I do each morning is drop non-clanners from my fight list. Thus I haven't seen this in a while..)

The other catch is that other than for maybe the top 4-5 clans, there's enough flux/variability in the 3 point clans, I found that using the filter option, pretty quickly my fightlist got whittled down to none. So I re-added all my favorites from before filtering out non-3 pointers, and re-filtered and had a fairly full list again.

Yes, takes effort to maintain a good quality fight list with 3 point targets. I'll settle for a constantly shifting mix of 2 and 3 pointers rather than deal with time consuming list management. Maybe that's why I'm not a 2-3k/day clanner.
