Tonight is my last night in chat. A few days ago, I had been witness to someone using foul language in new players, with no ops in sight. I've been an avid CB player since October, rarely missing a day. As I felt that I could help in situations where other ops weren't present, I figured I would ask another op what steps were to be taken if one was interested in helping out. Gun happened to be the first one I saw. When I approached him regarding it, I was told I was not "Op material", which I was a bit put off by as neither of us have had much contact with each other, and I have yet to cause anyone any grief.
Tonight I came home to burn off my final BA, and was looking at chat to see this:
<Gun> so no **** stuff in place of the bad word
<Bamaru> oh can i say butt
I decided to joke around ** IN GOOD TASTE **, so I replied with:
<dynom|te> what about good words
<dynom|te> like
<dynom|te> i ate some swiss *!*^#( today
I think anyone can see that, regardless of whether or not it appeals to their humor, there is absolutely nothing in what I said that would violate CB policy. I was just playing around, but within seconds Gun kicks me. I private message him to find out exactly the reason, at which point this conversation takes place:
=> Gun what was that about?
<Gun> you know what you were doing
=> Gun I made a joke, a completely appropriate joke
=> Gun what was i kicked for.
<Gun> #*%#(% <-- this (expletive deleted - nice to see he drops the pg rule in private)
=> Gun it stood for cheese, what is the problem with that
<Gun> why would cheese need to be in #*%#$^% form :P
=> Gun ... did you not read that?
=> Gun <Gun> so no **** stuff in place of the bad word
=> Gun <dynom|te> what about good words
=> Gun <dynom|te> like'
=> Gun <dynom|te> i ate some swiss *!*^#( today
<Gun> what's your point? you ain't going no where boy
I'm not expecting change. I don't expect Gun to be removed as an op, he's been around a long time and odds are Jonathon has him around for a reason. I think that its good when people like Gun step up to the plate to make CB one of the best-ran online communities I've seen since I built my computer. However, where does one draw the line with an op's power? It's a sad day for CB when someone can be kicked while following all guidelines in place.
I'll see you all in the battlefields I suppose.
