Random Drops (in General)

*Puts on his non-existent CoBF to prevent burns from the ensuing flaming*

Think about this: You're chillin' on your way back to train after a healthy beating of Spid and all of a sudden you trip and fall face first. Now, before you automatically assume that Lukey passed out on the battlefield again, you turn to look and much to your surprise, you tripped over a helmet of some sort. After closer inspection, you realize it's just a Cab, but it's still a good find nonetheless.

Now, I'm not saying I want to find a ToE after every battle, but I think some random drops would be very cool every now and then. Ideas? Comments? Suggestions?

Nice idea but would you like to look around after a battle and find that you've lost something?

BrandonLP March 2 2005 2:16 PM EST

I never said it had to come from the person you were fighting. It could be from ages long ago and just now became uncovered.

But let's not argue semantics, because we have a cloak that burns people, minions stupid enough not to run backwards while using fireball or magic missile, and money that appears from nowhere.

Of course Jon could introduces a thief class - train that theft skill up high enough and steal that ToE from under someone's nose! Pickpocket some CB2$ from someone as they're blasting another minion to bits with a fireball.... I think I'd like that better than just random drops!

I think my own special private Hell would be playing a game designed by Johnnywas.

no and no. Both have been rejected in the past.

QBJohnnywas March 2 2005 2:28 PM EST

LOL. I guess that's why I leave the game design to you then Jon =)

I think if there were random drops it could be a little more connected with the people you fight. a better chance of finding better items by beating people with higher pr/score/nw than you. One problem with this is that you would probably end up with more leathers than you know what to do with, and you'd end up selling them to the store, and nothing would ever spawn again, because there are 5000 other people doing the same thing. ;)

Descent, if it's an idea most people support, then we should find a way to make it agreeable with Jon. That is only if he turned it down because we couldn't find a reasonable implementation of it, rather than him just flat out not liking the ideas.

Yes, this could cause a bunch of leathers to be available, however, if the drops were extremely rare (say, 1/100,000 fights), that wouldn't affect too terribly much, but would add a bit more excitement, in my opinion. That number could be tweaked as well.

Still...no...

what if john just made a dueling arena... where every round was calculated slowly or and players could bet on eachother... like for instance player A duels player B they bet 20k... the winner of the battle would get 20k.... or u could bid items or swords or any other stuff... and u would have to post....that u were gonna duel or whatever.... or at least that seems to be another way to stretch it.

Wrong, the stores don't work that way anymore, they refresh based on the number of fights fought during the previous day.

Taken straight from the FORS (Frequently Offered Retarded Solutions, for those that don't know).

Q: Wouldn't it be cool if you could take items/money from a defeated opponent, or damage his armor, or something like that?

A: No, it would NOT be cool. Not even with a "really really low probablity [sic]," as one would-be game designer put it. This is completely antithetical to the main premise of CB's economy.

What you are proposing is quite similar to this idea that has been shot down many, many times.
