Thoughts on a medical condition? (not for weak stomachs) (in Off-topic)

I went and visited my Dad in the hospital today, and he is not doing so well. This in itself sucks, but I myself am the obsessive type and cannot help but worry. His problem is that he has a LOT of blood in his urine, and a lot of pain along with it. He is mostly blind so he noticed the pain for a week or so, but could not see his urine, so he did not notice a problem right away. Last night he could not urinate at all and decided to go into emergency. He has had a CT scan (cat scan) of his bladder and they found a "soft tissue mass" in there, that could either of two things; a blood clot, or a tumor. They flushed out his bladder and there were several clots, however he has not seen a urologist yet to do a scope. I figured that this is an outlet of many, many people, and if it was a common enough condition, possibly someone might know what it might be. I am at a loss either way. It makes sense that what they found was a clot, and I wouldn't doubt if it was a tumor, however... what would be making him bleed so much? He is not an active person, so nothing could have been torn. I have never heard of an infection causing this much bleeding, so what could it be? I am really worried about him, after going to see him, and he is in a lot of pain. I know this post won't help him, but if I can get some sort of an understanding of what he is up against, it may help ease my mind. I just wondered if anyone else had a family member with a condition like this, and what came of it.

Thanks for reading, and sorry if I grossed you out. I just can't put it away in my mind until we find out.

Sorry to hear about your Dad man. I wish I had more info to give you but I will tell you what I do know.

Blood clots can be nasty but they are treatable. The damage that they do before they get treated is more of a concern than anything else, although in your Father's case it sounds like it has not hit any vital organs (my Mom had a clot get thrown into her lung and do a LOT of damage to it.) If it is a clot, your Father will probably be put on blood thinners and they will have to check to see about other injuries.

If it is a tumorous growth then there are a lot of things that could happen from there. I wish there was more to tell there but there are just to many possiblities to be able to say anything about what will happen in that case.

Either way I hope your Dad's Situation improves. And as Severswoed said our thoughts and prayers are with you and him.

I hope your father recovers soon, and have every faith that he will.

The best thing during this time is to be able to trust your medical provider. I hope you have a doctor with a decent bedside manner who explains things well. That can make all the difference. Also, do not feel bad about asking for a second opinion.

Now, the hard part: the waiting. It sounds like the doctors think it is one of two things, and you will find out soon which. I am not sure symptoms match more one than the other (I am not even close to a doctor), but if the doctors have left both possibilities open, then they don't know either without more tests. I know it is difficult, but try to relax until you have more information, and do your best to help your dad relax as well. Just you being there for him is wonderful and comforting for him, so don't underestimate that. Keep his mind on other things as best you can, and when more test results come through, talk it over with him.

We live in amazing times, so I am confident that the doctors will be able to take care of this. Keep up the good fight!
