Valinor wants to reward new users for feedback (in Contests)

BrandonLP March 30 2005 9:40 PM EST

To even be considered for this promotion, your account must be less than a month old. Note that you can still participate, you just won't be eligible for the prizes.

Here at Valinor, we're not only interested in the success of our clan, but in Carnage Blender 2 as well. We'd like for you to tell us about your time here in Carnage Blender 2. We'd like to know what you like so far, what you don't like, what you would like to see changed, and how we can become more new user friendly. Just for posting in this thread, I'll have some random prizes I'll give out once the thread closes and everyone's had a chance to post. The prizes will consist of the following and possibly other items from other users:

A Cabasset [3] (+6)
A Pair of Cesti [5] (+1)
A Scythe [48x11] (+6)
A Lesser Tattoo of Ice lvl 1,320
A Lesser Tattoo of Augmentation lvl 40
A Lesser Tattoo of Flame lvl 2,970

BrandonLP March 30 2005 9:42 PM EST

Ack, this should've gone into Contests and any admin that could move it would have my admiration. I guess I put it in FS/WTB to avoid any confusion with items being involved and getting fined.

I finally see March 30 2005 9:47 PM EST

If I choose to participate, will I be protected from other Valinor clans?

Undertow March 30 2005 9:49 PM EST

No, however, we will not seek out your knee caps specifically. Come on, we're just trying to do something good, don't give us flak.

BrandonLP March 30 2005 10:02 PM EST

More prizes, generously donated by Rubberduck:

A Tower Shield [12] (+6)
394 Slayer Arrows [15x1] (+1)

FatalXception [Money Depot] March 30 2005 11:23 PM EST

My start's been pretty friendly. Was having trouble with my early builds until I did some reading (at someone in the new player room's prompting), especially of the new players guide linked from the "much more" section in community. I've found it a fairly easy game to get started with. A bit of serious camping (and some luck) on day 4 and 6 got me an assXbow and lesser tat's, which was a nice reward for a few hours of camping.

Even though it's spelled out everywhere, I think people need to be reminded of two things a lot more:
1) 1 minion is much easier to develop to 10k PR than 4, even though it seems you win more at first if you start with 4.
2) Renting is key to early winning, although you have to make sure you have a chance without the good stuff when it gets taken back.

BrandonLP March 30 2005 11:57 PM EST

Even more prizes! The TJK was contributed by BlueIsCooler and the Steel Brigandines are from Undertow.

A Tattoo of Jigorokano lvl 27,670
A Steel Brigandine [18] (+7)
A Steel Brigandine [18] (+7)

thebloomdog12 March 30 2005 11:58 PM EST

I have been playing cb2 for a couple weeks now and i totally love it. I have always been a big fan of games, all kinds of games, but this game has to be in my top 5. I like the way u have to strategically choose what each of your minions can do and whether or not they use magic. The only thing I dont like is that I really can't see my minions fight people I think that would be awesome to see even though it is highly unlikely.

Mistress Reyna March 31 2005 12:01 AM EST

Hey everyone gonna give some fo my feedback
first off so far CB2 has been very fun, the people are all great and with all games help is always important, and there are many people that are willing to lend a hand here. I for one yes when i here "will you sell me" see the $ signs but if gear is needed and i have it drop me a line either chatmail or pm and ill see what i have as far as newb packs. As far as seeing things changed so far im happy with whats been going on and have seen many great things. People that have left will be greatly missed but remember... CB always brings you back :)
Revelator will vouch for the newb packs as well as some the other players in NP :)
Most off HAVE FUN thats what this is about

sonicstrike March 31 2005 12:06 AM EST

This game is one of the best free games that I have found. The people here very helpful getting newer people started in the game, and the game itself is very veristale. I personally like the idea that I can take a piece of garbage item, and build it to something worthwhile. It doesn't have the terribly slow pace of games of the same type. The only thing that would make things far easier is to be able to search for opponents by score.

Undertow March 31 2005 12:10 AM EST

Sonic, do you mean be able to go... like...

"I want to my list to start at people with a score of 5,000"

hit and button, put in 5000, and bam your there?

Cuz that's a GREAT idea, would definetly stop the need of the "higher" and "much higher" links, I like it.

sonicstrike March 31 2005 12:23 AM EST

That's exactly what I'm suggesting.

Strafe March 31 2005 12:26 AM EST

Okay, I love the game, its very unique from any other Textbased game, and focuses very heavily on the Community aspect, which I love. The Store system is great, and the fact rare weapons are regulated so well makes it really a thrill checking the stores frequently, almost like playing a Scratch Ticket Game - although I haven't won anything yet =(

The only aspects I can really say I don't like is you cannot add a specific ammount of XP in a text box under train, because I have this really weird habit of wanting numbers to be even and clean. I don't like the menu on the left how when you click a link the link changes a color, because I just have a weird habit of wanting to delete everything in my Browsers history so they can all be the same color! =)

Last but not least - I don't like the PG system, I think we should add a Chatroom for selling items and buying items, and people can type one line of text every 30 seconds max in that chatroom. As for the PG system - erase, with no moderation whatsoever. Add clever scripts that will catch Scrollers and kick them with the first warning, send Chatmail, and auto Ban from the room on the Third attempt unless they pay a 50k fine to get back in CB rooms. Swearing excessively? Who cares, it only adds flavor. =)

Nephilim of Sky March 31 2005 12:34 AM EST

Hmm...
Well, I really don't have much fondness for the actual play-by-play menu/screen/thing...

I still don't know how to effectively read it; it seems very confusing to me. An optional, slower, more number-laden play-by-play screen, such as:

Turn 1:
Fuma hits Kamui with his Short Bow (4(bow)+12(dex)>3(dex)), dealing 142 damage (numbers go here...no idea how it actually works.)
Kamui casts Cone of Cold, dealing 143 damage to Fuma (numbers go here, too...)

It would help me figure out what does what...*laughs* Or I'm just slow.

The chat is nice, though, and people haven't been mean to me so far, so no problems community-wise.

I don't like the 160 cap. I feel like I should be able to walk away from the game for more than two hours and fourty minutes. Maybe a four-hour cap...but then again, maybe that would be unbalancing.

I also find it strange how you can transfer items from your main char to a new one...leading to level 1 dudes with claymores and tattoos. O.o

MudBug The Redeemer March 31 2005 12:43 AM EST

Well, right around the two month mark now. Has been a rather enjoyable ride.
Bounced around a few clans, decided they weren't for me, met a bunch of great people.

Now onto the meaty, juicy bits......
what I like...

General good-will of chatters
easy to pick up and play
Fair ops
Multiple pace choices..... fight every couple of hours or days, your choice.
multiple class strategies

what I don't like...

Spending insane amts of money to make strats work
losing exp to try a different strat (untrain)
tat's losing xp on unequip. hard to try other armor combos. I know, i know, I don't like it sue me ;)
Being late to work waiting to spend that last little BA

Just my observations/opinions. you wanted em' ya got em'. BTW Thanks Undrtow ;)

elegysix March 31 2005 12:58 AM EST

I just started playing on the 28th of march and I really enjoy the game. I just about completely stopped playing another online MMORPG just so i could dedicate my time to this one. I met the user dynom|te today and he has taken me under his wing as my mentor. I have gone from nothing to having a Pr of 2,664 and a score of 3,042 along with 1,239 battles total in just two days.
BTW 1,207 of my battles were challenges and 1,065 were wins. =)

I also managed to figure out the forging system today and I really just enjoy the game altogether.

As for becoming more new user friendly, I think that being able to chat really solves all the problems anyone could have. It's like you can just stop and ask directions at every turn.

I also think the way the web site is set up is very effective. CB runs much more smoothly than any other MMORPG I've ever played and so I find that to be a huge plus for me.

And the only criticism I have of the game is that I really can't find any reason -not- to play CB.

Apple March 31 2005 1:16 AM EST

Well.. I've been playing for around four days now. It's been really fun for the first couple of days, trying out different strats, finding the best build for me.

What I like:
Versatility with a varying number of minions and a wide range of strats as there are a number of spells.
Easy to train by just clicking fight
Easy to learn as the faqs and help links basically cover everything.
Good forging system.
Friendly and helpful community.
Reasonable OPs. Some can be a bit too strict sometimes though :P
Good trading system ie. Auction.
Good market system so there aren't any market saturation of any of the rare items.
Wide range of equipments to choose from. One with DX penalties, Magic penalties and etc so it varies from character to character. There aren't a certain "Best set of Equipments".

What i don't like:
The BA limit is too low as you can only last 3 hours before it fills up. I think it should be changed to around 450 BA as the max because then people will have time to sleep :P

Yeah that's it.. I only have 1 dislike compared to the many likes of the game. Shows how much i enjoy this game. To be honest I prefer waiting for ba and chatting on this game rather than playing even Lineage II =.=

That's it from me.. Peace out

[-war-] March 31 2005 1:21 AM EST

I am contributing to this post for some reason, anyways ya i started like 13 days ago. Uh this game is fun, kind of like playing diablo 2 except in some ways better like the item system, can keep track of all items in game, got good mods around, not really sure what will happen if this game ever hits like 20k users online each day at the minimum though. Oh and I'll take the tattoos off your hands, thx:)

Undertow March 31 2005 1:33 AM EST

Just a couple of things I'm seeing:

"Man this text thing stinks, give me graphics or a better display."

"This thing is sharp and loads fast!"

Note that point A defeats point B.

Jon thought to himself "Playablity or graphics?" And like that love of mine FFVI, he said playability. Go Jon.

pure March 31 2005 2:03 AM EST

My friend just recently told me about this game. That was yesterday, I only just started a few hours ago. At first I doubted I would play very long. I admit, I did it cause my friend wanted a referal, and i already had a few current games i had been playing so I wasnt expecting much. Usually webbrowser games give you limited Attacks, like BA, but what I hated was their slow "regeneration" times. Like you would get, for example, 200 turns per 24 HOURS. Thats whats great about this game, you can play every 10min!!! To me that was what made this game different, but thats not all. This community is awesome, other games dont even have a chat system like this. I gotta hand it to you guys, your great. You dont know how much 30min of helping a noob does, unless your the noob. The only thing I would say about this game is; the rewards for referals are low. I can understand if its to prevent abuse from bots or other things. But I admit, I dont have many friends that play games, so i can only get a few referals. That gold really didnt help me much. It would be cool if you could improve on that. Overwise this game is great, I may drop one of my other "paying" games to play this. Great job guys.

Special Thanks to Undrtow for helping me out :)

BrandonLP March 31 2005 2:29 AM EST

We're getting great responses and feedback. I especially thank those of you who have not only shared the good, but have also offered opinions about the things you don't like, would like to see changed, or would like to see implemented.

EndCypher March 31 2005 9:35 AM EST

First of all, I'd like to say this was a great idea for a game...it's great for taking a break from whatever computer work one has to do.

What I don't like:

-Battle system seems a bit repetitive.
-All there is to do is fight.
-Lack of interaction opportunities with other players.
-Lack of competitiveness between clans.

What I'd change:

-Add some animation, maybe? Or at least change the lines of the battles...
-Have some quests to do!!! Search for this, fight a number of battles equipping only that, who gets the highest streak related to PR in 10 minutes, etc.
-A chat sometimes doesn't cut it. Add some sort of interaction area other than text, or at least liven the place up a bit.
-Have clan tournaments!!!

I don't have an issue with user friendliness. The game is nice, everyone here is nice, too. I had a bunch of doubts, and I always find a small amount of people willing to help me out in the chat. Not once have I gotten denied, attacked, or ignored.

Keep it up CB!

Roven March 31 2005 9:46 AM EST

I started this game about 3 days back and now i have been waking up inbetween my sleeps (3-4am) just to play this game:) Why??? Firstly, this game rawks, it gives much satisfaction when fighting and also the excitement of camping items from stores. Secondly, this game has a friendly community and the clan point system adds to the addictiveness of the game. Thirdly, the BA system gives me lots of flexibility allowing me to be able to play inbetween my job:)

However, there are some improvements and ideas i would suggest. First, i would wish that there is a rest command/setting so that a player will be protected while he/she is not able to play for a couple of days. Second, colors could be added to names in opponents drop-down bar i.e clan members = purple, clan members with bonus = red. Third, it'll also be cool if there are random mobs which will be spawn in opponents list and these being able to drop cash or maybe some rares:). Forth, a little cash counter beside character's name (top left) would be useful cause some pages doesn't show how much cash you got. Fifth, some clan battles will be fun. Sixth, if it's possible a picture of players in different armors/weapons they r equipted with will be cool. Lastly, a friend list system which will notify you when your friends are online.

Have fun all!!!

Undertow March 31 2005 11:47 AM EST

Just so you guys know, and don't get laughed out of the thread, I will offer you a great piece of knowledge.

http://www.carnageblender.com/faq/one?scope=public&faq_id=145

This is the FORS Faq. FORS stands for Frequantly Offered Retarded Suggestions. They're ideas Jon will never ever ever implement, and quite frankly if you play the game for a couple of months you'll see why. They just don't work. They are retarded.

You guys are great, but graphics are one of them, go see why.

reluctance March 31 2005 2:49 PM EST

The thing i like most about this game, unlike other free games, is that there is not much flaming going on (the fact that it is monitored is also nice..people dont go around throwing lewd comments at each other (cursing for example) . Most of the people seem to be friendly and are willing to answer questions you may have. Cb2 also has alot of character variations which invoke lots of different strategies (is also nice that you can trade in your current skills for exp at a low penalty rate) and you can always change your character depending on what you think works/does not work. The rare items are also a nice added touch...it keeps me constantly looking at armor shop. Overall i would rate this game a 9/10. Its easy to learn, , lots of strategies to get involved in , auctions, rare item finding, the ability to change current character skills.
The only reason why i didnt rate this a 10/10 is the fact or how people nerf.. i.e. have low score chars w/ level 500k toj and godly items.
OH and while i was posting this..i really do hate that spellcheck..so annoying

KCC8120 March 31 2005 4:32 PM EST

The only thing that i can think of to maybe take a look at is to balance the game with the equpiment..make it so you have to have a certian level to use it...at low levels im renting huge epuipment..its helping me out a ton but maybe it needs to be leveled out...and possible a little more BA per 10 mins... This is a very enjoyable game and everyone seems to respect each other. Great game

Undertow March 31 2005 11:39 PM EST

While some of you seem to think that upping the ba limit is a good idea, this has always been my opinion on it:

Jon had made this game in such a way that it requires more than just smarts to be competitive. It requires effort. In this case, that effort is lack of sleep. You can sleep, sure, but you won't run with the big boys.

squee April 1 2005 10:29 PM EST

i have played 4 awile and i like it it is a good game but the fighting suks how u cant do any thing and i also dont like the u can loose pr and rank but over all it is a nice game

FatalXception [Money Depot] April 2 2005 12:54 AM EST

I would like to see some very small amount of extra BA given to non-primary members. Nothing much, maybe 100 BA every week or something.. but enough to try a different strategy or two, without falling behind with your main character. It would have to be very low to make secondary characters a very poor source of extra income or items....

BrandonLP April 2 2005 12:58 AM EST

Squee, you can't lose PR. You can lose score, but not PR.

Not a bad idea, Fatal. That might be an idea Jon could work with.

shadowalker89 April 2 2005 2:07 PM EST

i agree with the raising of the BA limit because after that you have to wait10 min. i also think you should lower that time limit for BA to like 5min in steed of 10.

i also think that their should be more spells and skills because there isn't enough lol.

Drakon(DS) April 2 2005 2:58 PM EST

I've been playing for about a week and a half. I think that the layout of the site is nice, so is the concept of the game. The lack of skills and spells isn't good but the skills and spells that we do have are good. They all have avantages and disavantages in there own ways. The ability the have both a melee and ranged weapon is nice. I like how you get a mentor in the beginning and the tourial is nice too. The chat is good cause it acts as a 24/7 help line. Most charachters will be willing to help you out.I dont like the small ba limit cause between work, school, and my girlfriend the game is kinda hard to play like i would want to ya know. The tatoos are a nice touch also. So is the clan system. I like crazy money andcrazy exp time too. They help out alot. The last thing is i like how it is real hard to get the good stuff cause it will make you work for rewards.

Undertow April 4 2005 1:30 PM EDT

Anyone else want a say in this?

FatalXception [Money Depot] April 4 2005 4:48 PM EDT

A bit of an addendum to the post above.. I think you would have to put a limit of 5 or 6 store visits on such a secondary character who got extra BA so that they couldn't be used for farming. Other than that, I haven't been able to think of any sort of exploit for giving a very low amount (100-150 BA a week) to a secondary character.

mourge420 April 4 2005 9:06 PM EDT

I do like the game, It's for sure the best text based RPG i've played online. i like the vast amount of people on the game and that it was so easy to learn, probably why its so addictive and so many people play it.

i dont like fact that money takes so long to accumulate.
id like to see more spells and abilities.
Perhaps a way for users to set up duels, the players set up parameters like "no weapons" or "no spells" or "no VA" and if they want there to be a monatary wager, go for it.

I do like the way tat's came into the picture, and that they gain levels, more maybe?
I like the fact you can level up weapons too, perhaps make it so that they also can gain experiance though, or at least named ones.
battle crys are great.
love the game though, keep up the great work staff.

cheesywotsit April 5 2005 8:23 PM EDT

Been on for a few days so far. My previous experience of this type of game was with a web game called Dominion which required you to be on almost all the time. This I feel I'll be able to dip in and out of more (which is important when you have 3 kids!) as the main action isn't limited duration. Looking forward to finding out more about forging at some point, it looks like there is depth and longevity to keep me coming back!

one criticism; In my opinion the tutorial could do with tweaking a bit. After finishing the tutorial I spent about an hour digging through FAQ and help to suss stuff out (from 'what is BA?' and 'What does ST stand for?' through to 'what does a tattoo do?'). Maybe intersperse the random fighting bit of the tutorial with info snippets, or auto chatmails every 20 fights or so until common answers have been drip-fed..

Undertow April 6 2005 3:19 AM EDT

Cheesywotsit, just a few things.

First of all, instead of trying to answer every question you could possibly have, CB does a grand job of trying to make you feel welcome, and providing you with ample ways to ask questions. I think that works better, and helps weed out the nontalkative people. Remember, at CB it's supposed to be community first, game second.

Also, your at least the third person here whose played dominion, behind myself and shade.

3D April 6 2005 2:41 PM EDT

off topic, but what is dominion?

Hammerhead April 6 2005 2:46 PM EDT

i tink it wold be good if a minion would get used to a weapon. So it would do more damage if it had been equipped for a long time and less if it had only just been equiped. With a limit of course

DarthCat April 9 2005 6:42 PM EDT

I've been playing for a few weeks, and, without equal, CB2 is the xenith of online RPGs. The sheer scale of the experience, not to mention the degree to which everything is thought out, is truly impressive. From BA respawn times (1 per minute is genius, as opposed to 160 per day, or 15 per referral, or other such systems- it allows those who are into the game to give the game several long "plays" per day, while those who don't play as often will always have 160 BA when they log in) to item generation (rare items that spawn according to user's wishes is an awesome idea) to battle itself (the number of possible variables is battle is mindblowing), every aspect of the game goes above and beyond what has come to be expected from 'net games. Finally, an online game for people who love gaming, rather than just trying to get others to sign up.

DarthCat April 9 2005 6:43 PM EDT

Whoops, ^that should say a few *days*. My bad.

Maelstrom April 9 2005 6:52 PM EDT

Hammerhead, you can improve the damage that a specific weapon does, by forging it.

I like how some free games you need to pay a fee to get full acess but not here. I really want the chat box not to require a java plug in because mine doesn't work at my moms house.

Arkentor [Arkertorians] April 15 2005 1:16 PM EDT

Hi all i have bean playing this game for a bout a week, when you get into it you cant stop and i like the fact you get a bonus at the start the only thing i am not happy about is the ba thing i think you should be allowed to store more so u dont have to go on it every about 3 hours to get the ba you need every think else is good.
Thanks to all the makers.

Issac702 April 15 2005 7:45 PM EDT

Its great but the ba limit is to low and i get really board while i have to wait for it to fill up again but all in all it fantastic
