Hi. My chat is not working at when it shows up it says " Error creating Socket : java.net.NoRouteToHostException : Operation timed out. I have dasked my dad if he installed a firewall and he said he didnt , and java works on my computer , this is the first time that this ever has happened to me...... help....

AdminJonathan April 1 2005 5:21 PM EST

you have network issues, probably a firewall

48Zach April 1 2005 5:23 PM EST

A firewall hasnt been installed , I have anti-spyware programs , and pop-up blockers and stuff.......... it has never happened. when i logged on at 4:00 p.m server time , it worked , then i logged out for 10 mins , came back and it wouldnt work.

DizzyGuy April 1 2005 5:26 PM EST

try reinstalling java

AdminJonathan April 1 2005 5:26 PM EST

java.net.NoRouteToHostException means you can't get to CB on the chat port. Period.

since your browser can, a port-specific problem indicates a firewall. not 100% sure but 99%.

if you want to pretend it's working then fine but don't waste our time saying you don't have a network problem when you don't know what you're talking about.

well i restarted my computer and got a new java , but with the new java , i only got a white chat screen with a sun. but why is this starting now?

AdminJonathan April 1 2005 5:31 PM EST

this is windows, dude. how should we know why it started happening now? :P

48Zach April 1 2005 5:32 PM EST

should a run a virus-scan?? or re-install java or something?

Maelstrom April 1 2005 5:33 PM EST

Maybe you just installed one of the newer windows updates? I think they auto-enable a firewall...

If you're using IE try a different browser (Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox) - IE is notorious for breaking things with updates.
This coming from a habitual Linux enthusiast =)

I have a firewall. My java works fine with it running and everything. So its proabbly not that.

Special J April 3 2005 7:33 PM EDT

turn off XP's firewall thats on by default

DizzyGuy April 3 2005 7:34 PM EDT

Well, he's on right now talking so i don't think that it is an issue any more ;)

Anubis April 4 2005 12:50 PM EDT

same thing happened here
Chat Blender 3.1.7 starting...
Error creating Socket: java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect

no Chat
Nothings been changed this end.

AdminJonathan April 4 2005 1:00 PM EDT

you mean you also screwed something up without realizing how?

gw but it's not on CB's end this time either.

Anubis April 4 2005 1:10 PM EDT

It was working when I went to bed. The machine was left on all night and I came back to play it some time after waking and the Java client no longer connects.

There have been no changes made to the machine.
What can I say?
It doesn't work now.

AdminJonathan April 4 2005 1:22 PM EDT

rebooting in the morning is healthy for windows.

Grant April 4 2005 1:34 PM EDT

Heh. FYI, with the Mac's Java implementation has always coughed up its skull when I try to use chat.

On the bright side, it's progressed to the point where stupid web games work :)

Anubis April 4 2005 3:05 PM EDT

Rebooting has sorted it
cheers :)

This is the only reason I'm not usually in chat. Let's hope Tiger does better.
