Retarded Power Shield/UC Suggestion (in General)

Mags April 3 2005 9:45 PM EDT

Given that a "power shield" isn't necessarily a real, tangible thing at all, how about removing the UC penalty from Mage Shields? Especially as new, cooler ones come out, this could be one small step towards making tattoos less of a mandatory item.

I agree as this might also be a move towards making UC a usable skill...

mags is smart.. i support the cause... oh and by the way... /me hates tattoos

How would it make tattoo any less mandatory? Unless you have one minion with UC (lol). Tattoos increase you're PR growth considerably. Any strat that excludes tattoo will lose in the long run.

"Unless you have one minion with UC (lol)."

I am so offended. :D (check out brock)

Okay, you can file it into the "make UC viable" bucket, but I'm desperately trying to come up with a way to use a Gi and not be amputated.

Playing without tattoos won't restrict your power growth if you have a good non-tattoo stat because you will be getting 1.7x the rewards (exp included) if you don't wear one.

That said, I have yet to see a good non-tattoo strat. A single tank with a CoBF and Adam might qualify, but only after you invested at least $15 million, and then you'd be vulnerable to decay.

Anyhow, I support removing the UC penalties from mage shields because it makes UC somewhat less pathetically weak. However, if you are trying to advance the idea that this would make tattoos less manditory I would laugh in your face, and that bitterly.

UC has no place on single member teams who like score > power. For multiple minion teams, the UC member normally doesn't wear non-minion tattoos anyway (as they're not the primary damage dealer, hopefully, so protecting them isn't the priority). As far as minion tattoos go, TJKs rock mage shields as far as damage reduction goes, and they're about as rare as dirt.

But back to my support of your idea, mage shields not having unarmed penalties could be justified based on their [0] natural protection, which could be construed to mean that they have no physical presence.

hehe. sorry if i offended you Mags. ;)

Wow.. you sure? where'd you get this bit of info from? What would be the purpose of a ToA on single minions? If this is true, I'd say a tattoo-less team would be quite viable. If you play defensively, you should be able to defeat players with equal or greater PR than you. You can get EC, AMF, or DM up higher than the opposing team's stats/spells.

-Huh? I don't use a tattoo, and I haven't seen rewards of that nature since before the rescale.

Great comments. The depth of understanding everyone has of this game is amazing. Thanks for pitching in. :)

I'd love to know what the XP bonus of not using a tattoo would really be separately from this discussion, though. Can you start a new thread explaining that, Grant? I bet lots of people would be interested.

there is no xp bonus for not using a tattoo
