Suggestions: Sleep features... (in General)

Roven April 4 2005 11:52 AM EDT

Just wondering why not have a sleep feature Where each player could use once per day to accumulate more BA... I.E 7 hours sleep=> 300BA cap (don't have to be 1 BA per min could be lesser:)

Roven deprive of sleep...

bartjan April 4 2005 11:59 AM EDT

Sleep is for the weak ;)

Steve G April 4 2005 12:02 PM EDT

i need sleeeep

Roven April 4 2005 12:03 PM EDT

At least with such a feature it allows me to sleep peacefully knowing that i could have a higher BA cap when i'm awake:)

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] April 4 2005 12:08 PM EDT

and that is why this will be a no.
There is a cap for a reason, it is seen as a reasonable number by all and the point of the game is the more effort you put into playing the more you are rewarded.
Answer me this, why should you expect to be able to benefit from sleeping as much as someone who stays awake all night?

Descent April 4 2005 12:08 PM EDT

Somebody has been playing too much WoW. =P

Steve G April 4 2005 12:11 PM EDT

there is nothing wrong with sleep, id like to get some eventually.

even if its only once a week where i can sleep for several hours straight it would give me a chance to catch up on some.

Roven April 4 2005 12:14 PM EDT

To zoglog:
Someone who plays all day could still get BA@ 1 per min however those who use the sleep feature are getting lesser. Those who DON'T sleep still gets more rewards. And i'm sure everyone might need to get away from games from time to time be it work, studies or even going out for a dinner/movie. Everyone could use the feature.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] April 4 2005 12:39 PM EDT

To Roven:
Yes they may still be getting less ba while sleeping but still more than they should have due to a higher sleep time ba cap.
Sorry but I am telling you why this is a bad idea and why it will be a hell of a long time for Jon to implement it. 2 and a half years of this game has bought me to look at these things in terms of Jon :P

Maelstrom April 4 2005 12:45 PM EDT

Roven, having a life and being the best at CB are mutually exclusive goals.

Roven April 4 2005 4:08 PM EDT

Not everyone wanna be the best:) some just wanna have fun. Ah well, let's drop the idea i don't think u guys get my point.

AdminQBVerifex [Serenity In Chaos] April 4 2005 4:17 PM EDT

It's too bad we can't resell or otherwise profit off our BA that would otherwise go to waste. (i.e. I'm about to leave, but I've got 100BA left) I know I can't go through it all, but I can sell it for a loss (as compared to the BA you can buy from manage char screen) to the BA bank or something.

Undertow April 4 2005 7:29 PM EDT

No, Roven, we get your point. Your just on in line with the thoughts of the more veteren players of this game, or it's creater.

Jon's been running on 160 for a long time, it's not that bad. At 7ba/10 minutes it give you almost 4 hours. It's not like your char loses exp if you dont' spend ba while you sleep, your just don't profit like people that are willing to make that sacrafice.

moser April 4 2005 8:34 PM EDT

Would an 8 hour lockout period save any bandwidth costs? A slight increase in BA for a guaranteed no login period might be worthwhile.

Roven April 4 2005 10:28 PM EDT

geez it's so scary to know that there are that many people playing CB2 who don't sleep more than 2 hrs and 40mins a day...

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] April 4 2005 10:38 PM EDT

This does kinda sound like a cheap way to get your BA lost while sleeping

sssimmo April 4 2005 10:56 PM EDT

sacrifice = reward
sleep = good well being

choice is up to you.....eye of the beholder and all that junk

Karmic Mishap [Soup Ream] April 4 2005 11:29 PM EDT

I'm for this option....

Think of the BANDWIDTH.... BE MISERLY!

... Besides, if someone's online burning 300 BA, they'll be really fun to farm on during that long window! ;p

Starseed^Lure April 4 2005 11:49 PM EDT

It does make me twitch, losing BA every night. I can't wake to spend the BA; I sleep like a brick.

budice April 5 2005 12:26 AM EDT

I made this post a long time ago. But it was not for sleep it was for school or work, most of us work 8 hours a day or go to school for 8 hours at a time and i still think the limit should be a max of 400 BA that way those that can't and i mean can't get on for at least 8 hours due to work or school still have a chance at being a top player.

Mandy [Journey] April 5 2005 12:43 AM EDT

i actually agree with this idea... i think it would be great to have a sleep/school/work feature... now of course by taking the wussy way out i dont think you should be able to accumlate the complete amount of 'lost ba' and i do like the idea mentioned that if you go into sleep mode then you cant log on for so many hours.. i know im a wuss cause i sure would love that idea.

FatalXception [Money Depot] April 5 2005 12:43 AM EDT

Except why should they be as good as a player willing/able to check in and spend his BA every 3 hours... even to the point of waking up twice a night to spend BA?

Short answer? They shouldn't with a but.

Long answer? They shouldn't with a perhaps.

Strafe April 5 2005 2:10 AM EDT

This is a great idea, with a little twinking. I like a 420 cap which is 7 hours worth, the recommended ammount of sleep for an adult may I add ;)

Sevare April 5 2005 2:17 AM EDT

# Q: Then why is there a cap of 160 accrued BA?

A: Letting BA accrue (store up) when unused rather than being wasted means you don't have to be logged in to CB every waking hour of your day to be competitive. However, someone who doesn't play for a month (to give an extreme example) shouldn't get thousands of fights when he comes back; that's unfair to people who've been active that whole time. A cap of 160 is a nice balance between zero and unlimited accrual.

You are just asking for a shorter aspect of this, If i spend my day off playing all day, why should I not have a slight advantage in terms of BA used over someone who doesnt play for 7 hours?

Roven April 5 2005 2:43 AM EDT

Seems like everyone is not getting what i'm trying to say. I'm sure everyone even the hardcores need a break off this game for more than 2 hrs and 40mins be it once every day, week or month. (unless there's 2 person play the same account) Also, i must emphasize that EVERYONE will benefit from such rest function. Those BA points which i mention are just a rough idea of what it should be, just rest system could be allocated once per day, week or month (same for the period of rest, 7 hrs or 1 hrs). It's just a rough idea unless Jon likes the idea then maybe more details should be put into it. Till this point, i am still not convince that anyone will be able to play this game at every interval of about 3 hrs for a long period of time.

Sevare April 5 2005 2:56 AM EDT

maybe thats the arnt supposed to play every single BA....

Roven April 5 2005 3:01 AM EDT

How about any other days where u don't get your days off? Do u think you'll appreciate such rest system?

Sevare April 5 2005 3:05 AM EDT

no, because why should I have the same advantage as someone else that gets to play during that time?

AdminQBVerifex [Serenity In Chaos] April 5 2005 3:20 AM EDT

Actually I wonder, if the maximum accrual is 160, which is 2 hours and 40 minutes. Why did Jon chose that amount? Why didn't he just make the max 25, and so you have to log in every 20 minutes. If I'm online all day, I should have an advantage over those who are AFK every 15 minutes. I think the point is Jon picked a random time to set the max at.

Some people can't win with such a small accrual time. Some people can. If Jon changes it to make it so you don't have to login for large blocks of time (7 hours) then people will stop playing, and they will do other things. The fact that people are seeing this game as THAT addicting must mean something to Jon. I appreciate the game alot. :)

Ok, and I do wish the max was something about 4 or 5 hours worth of BA, since it would give me my life back occasionally. :)
