Yet Another Possible CBF Nerf Idea (in General)

Sacredpeanut May 8 2005 12:00 AM EDT

Make the CBF have a strength requirement equal to 1000STR * Pluses on CBF.

Admittedly this wouldn't affect some characters (the ones that are really using the CBF just to protect their tanks from splash damage) which is fine. But it would make those CBF walls with tons of HP much less wally.

InebriatedArsonist May 8 2005 12:16 AM EDT

So, you would require that enchanters and mages blow an inordinate amount of experience on worthless strength?

Mags May 8 2005 12:27 AM EDT

That's one way of looking at it -- or you could say that they're spending XP to go along with their NW so they can do massive reflux damage. It actually sounds like a decently elegant approach to me, though I'd link it to NW rather than the + so that you can capture the scaling nature a little better.

Barron [CB2BANK Investors Club] May 8 2005 12:34 AM EDT

Oh, let the poor defenseless mages hind behind their CBFs and ToEs. Tanks will rule in the end :)

InebriatedArsonist May 8 2005 12:48 AM EDT

That's one way of looking at it -- or you could say that they're spending XP to go along with their NW so they can do massive reflux damage.

-Or you could say it's a plan that wastes large amounts of experience to benefit a few teams, such as yours. One more way of looking at it, really.

Why not require all weapons and armor to have experience and stat requirements? People shouldn't be allowed to invest their resources as they please, right? Characters like Gyaxx shouldn't be allowed to use high NW items, either, right? C'mon, give me a break.

It actually sounds like a decently elegant approach to me, though I'd link it to NW rather than the + so that you can capture the scaling nature a little better.

-Elegant isn't the word I'd use.

Why stop with CoBF. Every item should have a str limit. Why should we let people put their hard earned items on brand new chars and start over. It's just not fair.

If anything needs a nerf, Jonathan has the sense to do so. Don't you worry about that.

Mags May 8 2005 12:56 AM EDT

Every other item in the game besides Tattoos essentially requires some sort of XP investment to be useful. I really don't think requiring one for CoBF's as well is so absurd, or even revolutionary.

moser May 8 2005 1:01 AM EDT

What armor requires an XP investment?

Sacredpeanut May 8 2005 1:04 AM EDT

It's called HP moser

Mags May 8 2005 1:05 AM EDT

+magic% bonuses are useless without XP in spells. +DX/ST bonuses are no help without large amounts of base DX/ST trained. +UC is worthless unless you train UC. AC isn't much good without high base HP to multiply.

I guess DB's would be the other exception here, granting large evasion without needing to train it at all.

All weapons obviously require investment in skills and ST/DX to be of value.

Ia, obnoxious is the word I'd use. I think this is an OK idea, however it wouldn't do much to stop the COBF using "walls" (which I feel are the biggest cobf related problem), as it wouldn't be that huge of an XP investment to balance out the use of the cobf.

Sacredpeanut May 8 2005 1:17 AM EDT

I mean Dawg could make a new 4 minion team - equip the two CBF's on the back minions and beat EVERY single tank currently in the game (ok he would draw with those using archery) all with just 23 PR.

No other item in the game no matter how heavily upgraded would allow this to occur.

Sacredpeanut May 8 2005 1:20 AM EDT

Yes thats true Vicious - however it would tone down the ridiculous spending on CBF's that is occurring - take the character Magnus - he would require 93k STR on both his CBF minions in order to wear them - thats going to hurt.

Mags May 8 2005 1:34 AM EDT

It'd limit how big your CoBF could be relative to your PR in an indirect way, and it would also indirectly reduce the total damage done by the CoBF later on by drawing significant XP away from HP. Again, I'll point out virtually every other object requires stat investment to use it well, so why is this so obnoxious?

Maybe rather than an absolute requirement for ST, make the damage reduced relative to its potential, and maybe even increase damage if ST is greater than required. Might make for some really neat strategies, actually. :D

Boost CoBF stronger it is better is it for me.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

"It's a plan that wastes large amounts of experience to benefit a few teams".
If by "few teams" you mean the few remaining tanks, you are absolutely right.
Tanks are obsolete anyhow, and we should not worry about an item that on its own can defeat any tank. All considered, mages are doing well, so why should anybody be so inconsiderate to want to use anything else?
We all hope for a near future when there will be one remaining high PR tank, when it will not be convenient to spend money on a CoBF only to defeat that one character.
Mentors will show newbies the lone tank as a relic of the past, a living dinosaur.

Duke May 8 2005 8:05 AM EDT

I hope ppl will believe you manta and stay will stay with there old strat.

Spoken like a true democrat. We don't know what's good for us. Let those who run things decided what's best for us :)

QBsutekh137 May 8 2005 10:36 AM EDT

Sounds like a realist. Last I checked, Jonathan is the only one with the access to Cb code and data. Who else would make the change if deemed necessary?
