Monthly cost, it's fun for about 2 months. I really don't recommend WoW, but then again, I'm more of a heavy gamer, and WoW ends up being really easy if you have more than an hour or two a day to play.

I like it too, about the same as I enjoy daoc.
Guild Wars is free, i might buy that and start it, but highest lvl you can get is lvl 20...

Highest level for Guild Wars may be 20, but there are tons of skills per char you can collect to use, along with pvp. Saying its only 20 levels is really a joke. From friends that play it, WoW is good if you keep busy with things, or are into the whole Warcraft world story and all.

World of Warcraft is a great MMORPG for the casual gamer. It's very possible to play very few hours a week yet still progress at a decent rate. There is also a modest supply of high-end content for the dedicated.
PvP, in my opinion, is very lacking. There are no restrictions on levels or the number of people on each side, so you're basically screwed unless you're level 60 and always with a full group - and yes, there will be times that you will be ganked over and over by groups of people higher level than you if you're on a PvP server. Once battlegrounds come out, PvP might be worthwhile.
Now Guild Wars, there's a game for both the casual player and the hardcore PvP'er. It's very fast-faced and arcade-ish compared to your typical MMORPG. Levelling up and questing is fairly quick and easy, most lower level quests you can do solo or with NPC henchman and every quest area is instanced so you don't have to worry about interference from other players. There are about 75 skills per class, so every character has access to around 150 skills total of which you can equip only 8.
PvP is the focus of this game and, so far, is extremely fun! I've only experienced the first arena, but it's a blast. Basically you just enter the arena prep zone and hit "enter mission." After a short countdown, you're randomly matched with 3 other people and places in an arena against another team of 4. You fight to the death (earning experience for kills and victories, more so for a flawless one) and continue on until you lose. If you're defeated, just hit "enter mission" again and you're right back in the action! It's so much fun.
The mainstay of Guild Wars pvp is not the random arena fighting. It's Guild versus Guild. These battles are 8v8, and come in many flavors: team deathmatch, capture the relic/flag, king of the hill and escort/protect missions. In the Hall of Heroes, the big boys arena, you compete in a ladder style competition of 8 battles that get increasingly more difficult since you're matched against other winners. The team on top gets server-wide recognition, holds the favor of the Gods for their country, and is rewarded with a free guild hall if it holds the position long enough. Needless to say, there are a ton of options in PvP to keep guilds motivated.
Hmm, what a long post I hope it was somewhat helpful. Time to go back to fighting. :)

After the initial purchase of the game Guild Wars has 0 revenue.
And that business plan simply can not last.

Yes, there is no monthly fee for Guild Wars, yet another perk! The huge amount of instancing no doubt keeps server cost relatively low compared to that of other MMO's, but I am sure that it's still extremely expensive. However, no gaming company is going to spend years developing an MMO just to have it fail or bankrupt them in a year or two. I am sure they dedicated a lot of time and effort into developing their business plan, especially since a no-monthly-fee-mainstream-MMO has never been done before to my knowledge.

Also dont forget, they will be releaseing a new chapter (read expansion pack) every 6 months (least the last i heard), you wont have to buy it, but getting it will open up new areas, new skills to get and possibly new classes in the future.

"However, no gaming company is going to spend years developing an MMO just to have it fail or bankrupt them in a year or two."
It happens all the time My friend, all the time.
Income : $0
Expenses : Server costs, bandwidth, staffing, advertising.
Thats a no win situation, reguardless of it being the first of it's nature with no monthly cost. There is a reason that no one has done it before.
I will look more towards thier success after it has been out a year and there is still no monthly charge, including optional ones that give "perks". Ala runescape.

I guess I should have been more explicit. I was trying to say that no company will "design a game to fail or bankrupt them in a year."

Wrong. Guild Wars does cost a monthly fee (practically). You honestly think they won't be releasing expansion packs that don't cost just as much as the game did every 4 months? They'll be getting their $40 every 4 months, just like a real MMORPG.
The problem I have with Guild Wars is the only "MMO" part is not really combat. The real "content" of the game has size limits on the number of players, thus making it more like Diablo2.

A person is not required to purchase an expansion pack.

Wrong what?
You even said it, like every other MMO they will release packs, and yet every other MMO charges a monthly fee to cover costs of a real developement team. So this leads to either GW having an unlimited amount of money to spend on servers and costs of developing those new packs and covering support staff.
I'm wrong, exactly.
