John Johnson, a chat revelation (in Off-topic)

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] May 11 2005 6:31 AM EDT

My name is John Johnson
I come from Wisconsin
I work in a lumberyard there.
The people I meet
As I walk down the street
say "Hello. Who are you?"
and I say...
My name is John Johnson
I come from Wisconsin........

It's sing-songey, with a vaguely Scandinavian "Yon Yohnson" quality. Right up there with "99 Bottles of Beer" and "The Wheels on the Bus"!

Alternatively:

My name is Yohn Yohnson,
I come from Visconsin,
I Verk for the lumberyard there.
Ven I Valk down the street,
All the peoples I meet,
They say Vhat's your name, I say...

And this is where it starts repeating, ad infinitum really!

So it is neither a limerick nor lacking in PGness in any way, unless you count the likelihood that it is making fun of Scandinavian/Wisconsin peoples. I don't even remember where I learned it, but I'm not the only one. I Googled to see if my remembered lyrics were the same as others! Who else has heard this? No one from this morning's chat obviously, but that was a small sample.

(Could give you a translation to scandinavian, if only I knew how to make line breaks in HTML)..

Don't think we have a similar thing though

Majestic, line breaks are just <br>

Yeah, I've heard it many times, but I'm over 40 so I've heard lots of things many times. It's on one of the tapes of kids songs we've got for our son to listen to in the car, too. It's not that obscure.

I went to HS with a John Johnson. Also John Johnson is very often my fake name for anything I sign up for online.

Mitt namn är John Jonsson,
kommer från Wisconsin
Jobbar på en brädgård där,

&agrave; = à
&aacute; = á
&acirc; = â
&atilde; = ã
&auml; = ä
&aring; = å
&aelig; = æ
&eth; = ð
&oslash; = ø
replace the 'a' with any other vowel (or uppercase) for the other variants

And please, use 'preview' to check if it works ;)

yeah.. was at least a big success (to me), that I managed to get the breaks right.. never thought about the nonAmerican letters.
