Too many fight suspension too often for too long. (in General)

Myonax May 17 2005 12:21 PM EDT

I am getting hit by this at least once every batch of ba. Nothing is more frustrating then getting a 10 minute ban as your trying to finish off your ba so you can go to bed for the night. Now today I see its been bumped to 30 minutes!

I am just hitting C + Enter on my fight list and generally it cycles as fast as I can hit it, but for some reason 1 out of 30 fights or something doesn't get done fast enough and I am stuck with a suspension. I am not trying to go crazy fast or anything, but usually I am in a rush to get my ba done so i can get back to something else. Please Jon, have mercy on us! If its going to be 30 minutes please make it less likely for me to get one in normal operation...

Special J May 17 2005 12:23 PM EDT

Go slower, or pay the fine.

Myonax May 17 2005 12:24 PM EDT

There is no fine for too many fights.

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] May 17 2005 12:25 PM EDT

I get alot of these too, usually once per 160 BA, but ya when i hit two in one cycle and it hits me with 20 minutes. that kills me...lol.

Sometimes i get 20 minute bans, when i come back later (after signing off after a ban) i usually get the 20 minute ban.

Todd May 17 2005 12:27 PM EDT

I'm glad someone else is getting these too.

It happens at least once per day to me. I use the time-tested C-Enter method of fighting as well.

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] May 17 2005 12:28 PM EDT

last time i got one of those bans was back when the server was uber-lagged :P

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] May 17 2005 12:34 PM EDT

I got my first one ever today, and I didn't even notice the usual "warning" page that precedes an actual suspension.

IndependenZ May 17 2005 12:40 PM EDT

I haven't been suspended for this yet, but I have been getting the warnings fairly often.
At least once every 160BA. I just assumed it was me trying to rush things. :S

IndependenZ May 17 2005 12:42 PM EDT

Speaking of which:
"Your privilege to fight was suspended for 60 minutes starting at 12:40 PM EDT. Current server time is Tue May 17 12:40:57 2005. You may fight again when that time has elapsed, or you may continue immediately after paying a fine of $11,785. Click here to pay $11,785 and continue fighting."

Apparently there was a botcheck when I was typing my previous message... :/

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] May 17 2005 12:47 PM EDT

hehe, i get that too when the servers lagging. The unknown botchecks...=P

But yea, i *very* rarely see the warnings either...=/

[EG] Almuric May 17 2005 1:00 PM EDT

That's funny. I've never gotten one. And I fight as fast as I can and use the C-enter technique. Didn't there used to be a setting to disable multiple fight submissions?

AdminJonathan May 17 2005 1:03 PM EDT

there used to be, but nobody used it so I got rid of it

maybe it should be mandatory :P

Karmic Mishap [Soup Ream] May 17 2005 1:24 PM EDT

*votes for the mandatory setting*
While we're on the subject of changes, who else thinks that minions should have a female flag? It would be purely cosmetic... but in a text-based game, cosmetic changes are important! ^.~

Mythology May 17 2005 1:31 PM EDT

I must have had about 5 warnings about CPU resources in last 2 batches of BA, had before that about 3 in 2 years.

My spider sense is tingling...

Phaete May 17 2005 1:43 PM EDT

Same here, also C + Enter method.

Usually the pages come back to me within 1 second. (95%)

Sometimes i see a beginning of a botcheck, but then i have already pressed C and Enter again, and i get "the page cannot be displayed" Fighting a third time will get the botcheck again.

Sometimes the page takes far longer to load, and if i pressed the combo of C + Enter again, there is a good chance i get the multiple fight submission error, or simply the last fight (the inbetween fight is not shown but still processed)

I know i just need to do it slower, but if the last 20-30 fight all went on a nice rhythm, its hard to stop :)

[EG] Almuric May 17 2005 1:48 PM EDT

Is this another Firefox vs IE issue. I use Firefox. Myo, Todd, you guys using IE?

QBsutekh137 May 17 2005 1:57 PM EDT

Good point, Almuric... I have seen it a bit more recently too, but only at work (IE). At home (Firefox on OSX), no issues.

Myonax May 17 2005 2:10 PM EDT

I seem to be getting it even more then others:

Didn't I say it's not polite to fight more than one battle at a time? You'll have to wait about 10 minutes now for fight to be reenabled.
(Multiple suspensions will result in longer penalties.)

This was after going through 3 BA. And no that wasn't a typo, it was three BA. I really don't even think I am clicking that fast.

Undertow May 17 2005 2:15 PM EDT

All you have to do, you ready? Magic solution here...: always wait for the page to load. Don't fly through your ba, just wait for the page to finish loading. That's it. Not that hard. I get them every once in awhile too, and if I just slow down after the warning, I never get the ban.

AdminJonathan May 17 2005 2:32 PM EDT

Even if I could guarantee that CB always finished your request within 0.2s or whatever -- which I can't -- I still couldn't guarantee that your network always got the data to you fast enough.

In short, if you don't like the bans wait for your pages to load.

Undertow May 17 2005 2:35 PM EDT

Yah, you blame CB, why not blame... your isp?

Phaete May 17 2005 2:46 PM EDT

I'll give FireFox a try again.

And it's hard to blame the network if you're a cisco and modem away from an ATM ring :) (sometimes)

Phaete May 17 2005 2:53 PM EDT

Indeed pressing like a madman won't affect FireFox//CB2 is my experience now :)

/me does another dance of *Blame it on the Browser*

QBsutekh137 May 17 2005 3:00 PM EDT

Undertow, I don't blame my ISP because my ISP has not changed. This whole thread isn't about people suddenly whining. Something appears to have changed so that the 10-minute suspensions are more common. Myonax was just doing the standard "is it just me or is there an issue" check. In my experience, when Myo posts something, it is important, or at least has the potential to be.

By and large, this is not a huge problem, just something a bunch of us needed a reality check on. I can fight slower, especially when I am at work. *smile*

dnnx May 17 2005 3:44 PM EDT

I have not seen this in cb2 that much. And I go fast, I use the fav list goign down and enter method. I use netscape, the only thing I use it for is for CB. And have a nice DSL pipe.
I do get alot of bothchecks though.

dnnx May 17 2005 3:46 PM EDT

NICE!

I post, and go to fight, and guess what? I get one.

AdminJonathan May 17 2005 4:00 PM EDT

yes, CB is under more load. why would I be adding memory otherwise?

so if you try to click through your list at the same speed as before, duh, guess what happens?

guess what the solution is? at least wait for enough page loads to recalibrate your clickbot.

why is this so hard to understand?

"halp, I keep getting warnings to let my fights finish, when I'm not letting my fights finish. what's going on?"

Myonax May 17 2005 4:21 PM EDT

My Habbit for clicking is pretty simple, I hit c + enter and when the name changes to have a * in front of it I click C and enter again. I assumed that having an opponent show up with a * in front of name is considered done. I play at work and prefer not to have a browser up for 10 minutes to click through 160 battles and make sure the page completely loads everytime.

I am trying Firefox as was suggested earlier in the thread to see if this is indeed a stupid IE problem so stop with the "wait till the page loads" suggestions please. I am a big fan of pointing out the obvious too but thats really not helping me. My point of this thread was maybe to relax the fight suspension a bit on this since Jon did admit things are a bit slower. I am not saying the world is coming to end or CB is broken, I am just tired of getting 10 minutes bans when I am in a hurry because its late and I want to go to bed, or I have a long meeting comming up and want to get my BA gone.

Who knows maybe firefox plus memory on saturday will make this all go away anyways.

HellBlender May 17 2005 4:35 PM EDT

I use firefox/mozilla between work and home and I've never had this problem and there are numerous times when I'm doing the c [enter] c [enter] c [enter]... routine to try and burn up 160 ba in under 5 minutes.

[seriously] I assume everybody that is having the suspension problem also uses IE? If so, does IE show partial page loads (like Firefox)? or does it wait till the whole thing downloads (or you stop the download) before it displays the page?

Assuming yes, then I think Firefox showing the page as it loads helps in this case because you see the botcheck page quicker.[/seriously]

QBsutekh137 May 17 2005 4:52 PM EDT

No one said it was hard to understand, Jonathan (at least I didn't).

Max May 17 2005 5:15 PM EDT

"recalibrate your clickbot"

laff

Thraklight Resonance May 17 2005 7:23 PM EDT

/me cues Paul and Art

Slow down, you click too fast, you've got to make the BA last
Just kicking down the bot checks and looking for wins and feeling groovy

Feeling groovy

Hello Sefton, what's cha knowing, I've come to watch your PR growing
Ain't cha got no rares for me, do-it-do-do, feeling groovy

CB I love you, all is groovy

AdminG Beee May 17 2005 7:24 PM EDT

lol - nice

Ascent May 18 2005 10:10 AM EDT

like HellBlender, I use FireFox and I use the down-arrow enter technique, and can burn through a full set of BA in just a few minutes, and have no problems whatsoever with running into the multiple fight thing. I'm guessing maybe it's an IE thing? In which case all I can say is: Get a *real* browser. ;-)

Todd May 18 2005 1:43 PM EDT

It happens to me mostly on IE at work.

But, here is how I get the 10 minute ban the most often:

1. I purchase more BA
2. I come back to fight, and I get the "Hey! Listen you stupid clickbot-using cheater, you are not being fair to the server by fighting so fast" warning.
3. I wait 3-4 seconds, and try to fight again. I get the same warning.
4. I wait another 3-4 seconds, and again get the same warning. (It has now been close to 10 seconds after buying my BA and returning back the the main screen).
5. After waiting a further 10 seconds or so (I dont want that ban), I try to fight. Nice! I can fight again.
6. I finish 1 battle, then go to the second one..
7. "Didn't I warn you, you obnoxious newbie! Quit hogging server time, you'll have to wait 10 minutes now you moron. Don't bother posting about it, or whining. You'll make me waste my time reading your whinings, and that really ruffles my feathers"
8. Erm.. ok.

Disclaimer: I have "Jonathanized" the warnings, they really don't say that.

Myonax May 18 2005 5:25 PM EDT

FYI: For those of you that tried to help, I switched to firefox and have not had a ban since.

Phaete May 19 2005 3:32 AM EDT

Did the same at home, no bans there, but FireFox is 15% slower for every page on my machine :(
At work, IE and within 11 successful fights, the ban comes :(

Awfully inconvenient.

I tried to readjust my clickbot, but after seeing the walk through on how to do it (with modifying all these bloody sinews, nerves etc.) i've decided that Bio Engineering is not my hobby. :P

Now trying Valium, to get myself so tranquil that my rhythm will be adjusted to CB :P

My actual brainstorm question would be:
If there is a difference between IE and FireFox that affects this on the client side, perhaps IE is modifyable to do the same (as FireFox) with a specific option, registry setting etc.

Anyone?
