Idea for recent battles. (in General)

Manta June 13 2005 7:42 AM EDT

I would like to see two things implemented for the "recent battles" page.

The first is putting stalemates together with lost battles (stalemates are even worse than losses).

The second request is having two other filters: the first, for battles where I am the attacker, the second for battles where I am the defender.

I think that both changes would be useful and not difficult to implement; moreover, the second change should ease somewhat the load on the server (since now people could ask, for instance, for the last 70 battles where they are the attacker, instead ofthe last 1000 battles).

Thanks in advance.

I, too, would appreciate these changes. They are long overdue.

nice Idea, I like it

I would add a filter for wins, losses, draws, and stalemates.

So you could ask for all battles where you were the defender and won.

lol, maybe this is too much, but...

I am waiting for a button that would goto "the battle" to see the stats of the battle, "the play-byplay", after the battles over. Like you can in Darkthrone, for whoever plays it.

I agree with miteke, except that (again) stalemates can go together with losses, and draws with wins.
So, there could be 2 groups of check-boxes, one win/loss/either, the other attacker/defender/either. The default would be either/either (so you would see all battles, as it is now).

Small, I am not sure, but is the play-by-play even saved? Seems like a great deal of data to store... I can't remember if Jonathan makes that information persistent or not...

I'm quite sure that the battle logs are not saved, and here's why:
184,625 battles served in the past 24h
	39,309,169 total battles served
Can imagine keeping track of all that information? The storage space required would be immense, and really, what's the benefit? Just fight the person again!

Actually, I thought about that, and depending on how much data Jon saved per round, it is not THAT much data. Let's even say 100 million battles at an average of 10 rounds per battle. Thats a cool billion records. Not undoable by todays standards, especially of only shooter, target, and damage numbers are saved (he can fill in the blow descriptions and snicker-snacks randomly at a later time). Data would be MUCH less if he only saves the most recent month or so, and nukes the previous battle details during maintenance/flush times.

But yeah, still a lot of data and processing. Just the inserts, arguably one of the most intensive server database operations, would make the server thrash like crazy as battles are going on. I hope he is not bothering to save it. *smile*

Just a side note, I find that on IE, trying to use the back button to view a loss after I fight again and win does not work. Clicking back just shows the win again. However, on Firefox, I can fight twice to win and still go back to view my loss and analyze the round by round. I am sure it is just a goofy cache setting here at work, but it is kind of interesting.

i do agree that keeping the battle records could be useful, but still - just fight the person again.

i dont think the problem would be storage space (you could cut down the number and size of saved battles lots of ways), but rather the added reading and writing at the time of each battle.

I agree

No what i really meant to say was, to see what kind of stuff the person attacking you is doing...damage wise and enchanments (how big or small they are) and stuff, and to see how it ended, how much HP he had left and you had left...All that could be helpful with a play-by-play save. Mainly to see how far away you are from being able to defeat them...lol. I know, we're talking about alot of saved information, but right now theres a max of 1000 fights stored in each persons fightlog....If this is implemented, Jon could always lower it to 300-500 or so. Or you could even have an option to turn it on to save the play-by-play, or even a supporter option....*shrugs*....many options for it.
