The top ten and new users (in General)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] June 21 2005 2:21 AM EDT

Hi all, another post on CB s new user friendlyness.

I understand the New User Bonus and why it was put in place. I think the problem of the Top ten being uncatchable could be solved by leveling the playing field.

New users and those playing since 1st of January should all have the same reward system.

As for the top ten, their 'fighting low' exemption should be removed. I never did understand this. Yes, who you can fight (especially for usual rewards) get's less and less the higher you climb, but I say tough.

If you have the number one spot and are the best character, fighting everyone else is easy. Your rewards should reflect this.

Removing the Top ten exemption and the NUB would stop the rapid rise of new users and claim the frustration of those who never got it, while slowing the progress of the top ten, allowing newer character to rise and meet them. Who would then slow due to lesser rewards from fighting low themselves.

If new users really need a boost, give them better rewards for thier first day, or week, to allow themselves to get started when it's all quite confusing (and so you never buy an item and no longer have the cash to heal after your next fight! >_< ). But isn't that what mentors are for?

Well, if this were a democracy, you would have my vote. Well put, and I like your ideas. I guess for myself, I dislike the idea that since someone has only been here a month or two that they should get all sorts of easy breaks so that they can easily catch me and those that are higher. Why do they even need to be able to catch the top in 1/3 the time? I remember in CB1, that if someone wanted to get to the top without taking the time and being around awhile, they saved cash or used USD and bought a team. That's still an option if you MUST be at the top.

That's just me though. Maybe I'm just jealous I don't, and never have, gotten a NUB. At least I can be proud of bringing myself to where I am today through work and having fun.

I was about to say the same thing in one of these threads but you beat me. ;)

So GL, you want to penalize the top player in the game because it would be thusly impossible for him to fight above himself, and thusly impossible to get decent rewards? That makes no sense to me and seems to remove a large portion of the incentive to be the top character. You say tough, but wait until you are in the 11th overall spot, unable to beat anyone above you and unable to gain in rewards of any merit because you are forced to fight below yourself, and then watch as you tumble slowly back down again as people below you climb over your no rewards having character no matter how hard you try or how good you character is, then talk about tough.

If you think its easy to fight as the #1 character or even a top 10 character then you are a LOT farther from getting there than you think :)

Exatly Sefton.

11th place has to be the worst in the game... No exemption, and possibly no one above to fight.

But look at just about every other P&P/C RPG in existence that bases it's rewards on killing things. After a while, low monsters give you noting, as you get so much more powerful than them.

If you have a team that has a 1 million win streak (I know I'm exagerating...) because *no-one* else in the game can touch them, you think it's fair for them to be getting normal rewards?

I don't.

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] June 21 2005 1:59 PM EDT

So instead you want to penalize them for it? So what is the incentive to be #1? Posterity? Wont last long even if it is posterity, as the 11th place situation will simply become the 1st place situation. So, you would be better off figuring out how to make it so you are in 11th place than first place because at least at 11th you could have theoretically 10 people to try and beat with decent rewards. Hi new player, ya, no you do not want to be #1 you want to be #11, bye new player.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] June 21 2005 2:35 PM EDT

Being #1 is the incentive...

To be the best. Top dog.

What's the incentive at the moment? Everyone in the top ten get's the same exemption...

You *really* think slowing down the progression of the number 1 slot will turn new players off of aiming for it? As it is now, you can only get there by spending more USD than the number 1 guy and/or fighting more. Which, in all truth isn't going to happen...

Why does 11, 12, 13 down to the newest character get a penalty for fighting down? Why should 1 to 10 be exempt from this? Why make it easier for the best teams?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] June 21 2005 2:39 PM EDT

Let me rephrase my last question.

Why make it even easier for the top ten than they already have it by being able to beat everyone else already?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] June 21 2005 2:44 PM EDT

Gahh for post editing... Let me also give a little example.

I work my behind off and finally get to 11th place. It's a struggle, and I find I can't fight any of the top ten. No problem, it's just a matter of me fighting more and getting good enough to beat at least one of them.

But, as time moves on, all the ten above me get better rewards than I do, because I *have* to fight down. The gap between me and them grow. They get better rewards than me for all of our fights, and I *can't* keep up.

And there's not a thing I can do to stop it.

Unless one of them stops fighting.

Now that would put me, or any new user off of wanting to reach the number one spot.

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] June 21 2005 2:48 PM EDT

Tell you what GL, buy Ranger's character, and then have the top 10 exemption removed. Here is what would happen. You fight as much or more than Ranger did, now you are #2 because your rewards suck against everyone you fight. So you fight harder and peg that top guy a ton as much as you can, now your #3 because your rewards suck. It wont matter if you have a better strat, more NW nothing you will do will keep you in the top spot because your rewards suck. So now you are #3 because your rewards suck. Somewhere in there the person who just fight the people higher than them, and no one else will rise up as you fall down. Wont matter how hard you try, nothing you can do but fall, until you are only fighting those people above you and then now you are #1, rinse, repeat. So instead of an ordered top 10 it will be a group of players who can only fight amongst themselves and only swap positions now and then. Where does that help anyone?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] June 21 2005 3:06 PM EDT

Yup. That's about right.

First, I'd have to spend USD to get there, but at least the number 1 spot would be battle. Not just EZ mode with cruise control. ;)

I think we're gonna have to agree to disagree on this one Sefton.

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] June 21 2005 4:10 PM EDT

Agreed :)
