Suggestion: Bank (in General)

Mikel [Bring it] July 14 2005 1:22 AM EDT

In some of the other games I play that involve people collecting money, there is usually a Bank where you can stash xxx amount of cash for xxx days and get xxx interest off of it.
How come there isn't one in this game?
I don't think it would be that complicated to add to the game, some of the auction features could be swiped.
It could help out on loans too, a place where you could apply for a loan, and people could loan you the money at a controlled interest rate so that we wouldn't waste so much space making posts.
Then that user that has the loan would need to deposit $ into the bank and it would automatically be x-fered to the loaner and deducted from their loan until paid off.
This way, 1 person couldn't have multiple loans out at one time. They'd have to pay off one first.
Anyways, at least it would all be game controlled and monitored better.
I'm sure there is more people in the game that can help come up with more ideas to apply to this.

This is in CB1. But Jon purposely left it out of CB2. Never going to happen, I promise that.

Why keep it out?
It adds a whole new dimension to the Economy side, if you want to deposit money, then you can get a very small rate of growth, so that people will be interestedc

having to loan out money does add interaction, at least in a business sense... now whether or not that interaction is tedious to carry out is another question

i do think that there should be some form or automated loans for small amounts, say capped at 50-100k, somewhere in there. It could require an item to be held until payment is made in full, sort of like a reverse mortgage on the NW of the item.

or maybe not have a fixed cap, but rather capped at a certain percentage of the item's NW.
...All of this, of course, with a fee that goes to central bank...

there's my 2cents, lets see if i've invested them wisely : p

max money you could get out of the bank on cb1 was 60k in one week, so i doubt Jon will bring this in and add more interest per week...Not gonna happen...=/ lol

If the Bank comes back, I'll eat my

Here's why.

My philosophy is that all money should come into the economy through battles. Having the Bank break this rule was a mistake.

I miss the old days of the 1 mil bank account :)

If you think about it, a loan is very much like putting your money into a bank. You save your money for later and in return you collect interest. I'm sure you want something controlled by the game, but you'll just have learn who you can trust. You're no stranger to making deals outside of auctions so I'm sure you have a grasp of this already.

The current situation is balanced in that money is proportionate to everybody's growth since no cash is earned without xp attached. That is why any alternative form of income is opposed.

Many games do have a bank, but you must also remember that other games also have caps on total progress and on the total improvement of weapons and armor. This game does not and hence there is be nothing to bring a person to the point of "okay, I'm done".

the more i think about it, the more i like the idea of reverse mortgaging your items. It would not generate money in any way, but rather it would funnel money into central bank.

call it a stupidity tax for not having enough money on hand for that rare you wanted, but i like the idea of using valuable items as collateral...

In cb1 the bank is what, 7% for a week? or is it less......

TheEverblacksky July 14 2005 3:00 PM EDT

1% for a day 10% for a week

Mikel [Bring it] July 14 2005 10:05 PM EDT

hmmm well I'm not planning to use it as another avenue of making money other than the loans. I think it would be neat if someone could go to the bank and state how much of a loan they need and how long they need to pay it back.
Something like 1% goes to the system (in case of resets, the loaner can get up to 95% of their loaned money back), sorta like an insurance clause and the rest of us could send offers with varied rates and lengths to "attract that loanee"

Expanding it further, an item or spell could be created that if you hit someone and win, you'll get a portion of their money that is not in the bank, but on their character, this would augment battle rewards some (not exp), and force most people to keep their money in the bank making it a safe place to store your money.

Not that I care if this ever happens, I was just merely making an interesting suggestion as to a way to create an alternate strategy as to a way to make people want to fight even more.

Number 6 under "Frequently Offered Retarded Suggestions" in the FAQs.

Q: Wouldn't it be cool if you could take items/money from a defeated opponent, or damage his armor, or something like that?

A: No, it would NOT be cool. Not even with a "really really low probablity [sic]," as one would-be game designer put it. This is completely antithetical to the main premise of CB's economy.

I think you just added yourself to the list of people that made this question "frequently offered".
