Well, after taking the new poll, and seeing lots of the responses, it's clear to me that I'm not the only one that dislikes fireball. I guess Jon is even questioning if it is a problem (hope you don't mind my reading into the intentions of your poll if you're reading this).
Anyway, there were good points on both sides I think I saw on the fireball argument. Some, like me, are saying it's too strong and should not deal massive amounts of damage to say a single minion, or two. Massive fireballs make most ranged weapons, with the rare exception of one of a few uber-ELBow's in the game look weak. Fireball shouldn't be a huge edge versus single minion teams- shouldn't that be magic missile's job?
Next point was that no, it's not overpowered because single fireball mages aren't dominating the top at all. If you look at all those large teams that are leading CB2, they aren't getting hosed by the single mages one bit. They spread it out, and have ways to reduce it. So fireball isn't too strong, and a nerf could make it rather unusable at the top.
My idea: here's what I'm sure you've all been waiting for. Why not listen to everyone a little bit? Leave the fireball dealing the same damage, so multi minion teams and those at the top aren't affected. However, decrease it's damage increase against lower enemy numbers. I would even say just have it deal so much damage to every minion, regardless of if there are 5 enemies or 1. It might even be feasible to increase its damage dealing as well then. Instead of having a fireball that would deal 20k to 5 enemies and 100k versus a single enemy, have it do the same regardless. Maybe I'm mistaken, but the point of fireball always seemed to be to multi minion enemy damage quick anyway.
The biggest plus would be this would even the field in my opinion. Take away (or reduce)the canonical features of fireball and say slightly boost the damage. No longer would melee fighters with 5 million NW bows and xbows have to hunker in fear of the single guy that blows away all with his spell.
Well, I'm sure many will disagree with me. So let's talk about it. Thanks for reading.
