Comp Nerds Challenge... (in Contests)

ThePwnageStickz August 1 2005 11:08 PM EDT

Prize: One of CB's finest Daggers, won in an auction for 40k :)
A Dagger [4x11] (+32)

First you must find my IP, and then trace it to the exact location of where I live, and post it here, good luck nerds :)

(And yes this is very possible if you know your stuff)

ThePwnageStickz August 1 2005 11:09 PM EDT

Oh and the rules:
Try as many times as you wish, Contests ends 2 weeks from now :)

Grim Reaper August 1 2005 11:10 PM EDT

California close enough?

Relic August 1 2005 11:12 PM EDT

New Hyde Park, New York, USA

Relic August 1 2005 11:13 PM EDT

Or, London, Ontario, Canada

LumpBot August 1 2005 11:14 PM EDT

Of my attempts in college, if you want someone to do something, don't insult them ;)

ThePwnageStickz August 1 2005 11:14 PM EDT

btw Symantec does have a built in search that if someone trys to hack your computer it will take their IP and narrow it down to their exact location.... and no, neither of you where close, let alone close enough :P

Special J August 1 2005 11:14 PM EDT

If you mean exact by house location I am going to draw a line there.

General public information such as provider, and city/state will be that very line.

Grim Reaper August 1 2005 11:15 PM EDT

No I'm sure it has to be in california.

ThePwnageStickz August 1 2005 11:16 PM EDT

provider, and city/state is closest I will be able to allow I guess.... do you mean province/state or can they also get down to town/city???

ThePwnageStickz August 1 2005 11:18 PM EDT

btw glory is getting very close :)

Special J August 1 2005 11:18 PM EDT

city/state province/city/town/backwoods trading post

BrandonLP August 1 2005 11:19 PM EDT

Either you or you ISP is in Ontario. Your ISP is a bit shoddy as well, seeing as how tracert did not return pretty results. I'm not digging any further than that for 1.) privacy issues and 2.) I don't care. =P

Relic August 1 2005 11:20 PM EDT

Ok, Toronto, Ontario, Canada =)

maulaxe August 1 2005 11:21 PM EDT

Toronto.

maulaxe August 1 2005 11:23 PM EDT

darn, i was reading other stuff and forgot to push submit :(

ThePwnageStickz August 1 2005 11:23 PM EDT

Righto then needed information will be:

Country, Province/State, Town/City, Internet Provider, And last but not least, My ip :)

And the dagger is yours

Another FYI, I am on linux, just another challenge possibly :)

BrandonLP August 1 2005 11:25 PM EDT

Your IP is in your transfer logs.

ThePwnageStickz August 1 2005 11:27 PM EDT

I know that along with allot of other people :) (If my IP wasn't there this "contest" would be allot more harder now wouldn't it?)

Relic August 1 2005 11:28 PM EDT

Special J August 1 2005 11:28 PM EDT

Linux would not help mask your IP location, nor provider's location.

Relic August 1 2005 11:29 PM EDT

If that doesn't do for the contest, then I am out. I got all information that is available for your IP.

thnatic August 1 2005 11:39 PM EDT

Canada, Ontario, St. Catharines, 63 King ST, Sympatico HSE, 69.159.52.48

dont know if that right, but its what I keep getting

thnatic August 1 2005 11:45 PM EDT

sorry, misread the post. thought you needed the street number as well :/

bartjan August 2 2005 12:51 AM EDT

Congratulations, thnatic. You've found the address of the headquarters for Pwnage's ISP ;)

thnatic August 2 2005 1:37 AM EDT

yes indeed, my overwhelming skill at this is obvious isn't it :)

Sukotto [lookingglas] August 2 2005 8:48 AM EDT

Best I can do is London, ON, Canada
or maybe it's Sudbury, ON, Canada

You're using Sympatico, yes?

Relic August 2 2005 10:02 AM EDT

You may be in Australia, but you have a goofy IP address it is hard to tell.

Relic August 2 2005 10:07 AM EDT

Ok, last attempt, then I am done.

He is closest so far :P

Wow just with the address being "unknown" too many miss-spelled words

So I guess I must make this longer just to make the "miss-spelled" words in the address work...
And no without the street and number it would still not be correct.... I'm almost ready to just alone accept that :)

Here is the last and final hint, St.Catharines, Niagara Falls.. are all very very very very very close to me :)

There are roughly 10 days left of this contest :)

ThePwnageStickz August 3 2005 12:37 PM EDT

And for you all that have not relized this yet, My IP has changed I'll just give the new one:

69.159.58.150

My IP changes randomly ;)

ThePwnageStickz August 3 2005 12:48 PM EDT

5k sent to all that looks like they put hard work into it:

thnatic Looks so far to be the closest, I might just end the contest soon and just give it to him unless someone else can come closer :) (correct city, not city beside me ;) )

Special J August 3 2005 12:57 PM EDT

Stick, you need to learn how IPs work and where they can be traced back to.

You -----> ISP -----> Internet

See how your ISP gets in the way there? An IP can be traced back to the ISP, the ISP can trace it back to the user.

Relic August 3 2005 1:29 PM EDT

LOL, of course you are going to have another IP Address unless you pay for a static one from your ISP.

ThePwnageStickz August 4 2005 11:51 AM EDT

The Dagger is going to go to thnatic pretty soon if noboddy starts to keep trying...

! Love Barney August 4 2005 12:14 PM EDT

- If all else fails, use <nospellcheck> tags to 'opt out' part of your post from spellcheck. (Choose HTML mode and simply write <nospellcheck>...my text...</nospellcheck>.)

- Ignoring this advice and simply padding your post with extra words to get above the 0.15 threshold without an exceptionally good reason will result in a fine.

thnatic August 4 2005 9:47 PM EDT

thanks for the dagger, I'm sure it will useful somehow or other :)
