strat help (in General)

I need some help with my main character, Groo the Wanderer. First, I should say that I don't really have a real strategy other than equipping the rares that I camp.
My main question is should I hire a fourth minion as a wall. I have all the necessary armor to do so, but am unsure if I will be throwing away the money that it takes if I do not like the wall. At this point, hiring the wall would be over an 800k investment. Also, if I do hire a wall, will my rewards go down much? Thanks in advance for the help!
