I wonder if the MMORPG phenomenon applies to CB or not? We aren't as much of a cohesive community as we were before the advent of "clans". But still I know some people stay on here hours and hours a day. (looks at self)

I doubt there's much here that applies. MMORPGs, even going back to the earliest MUDs, have a completely different social model--in particular, they don't generally have a mechanism like CB's BA.
On the other hand, I've heard anectodal tales of IRC and Empire addiction. Each of those (I think) would have a closer resemblance to putative CB addiction.
