Unarmed Combat?! (in General)

Hello, I'm kind of new here and I got question(s) that I've yet to find the answer.
1: Is Unarmed Combat worth it?
2: Will the boost that Unarmed Combat gives me work if I put a melee weapon on?

Please, there's no such thing as a stupid question. In answer to your questions:
1. It's a tough skill to use. Unarmed Combat (abbreviated UC) requires a little commitment. Not only does your minion that require a lot of experience trained into UC, he also needs HP, ST, and DX. To be a successful UC minion, you also need the UC gear, such as Helm's Gauntlets and Combat GI. It takes commitment, and would work best as probably a single tank. Take a look at the character under BrandonLP, called Brock Samson. Very good strong single UC tank minion.
2. UC is only good for fighting without weapons. It does nothing if you have a melee weapon equipped. I suppose the whole point is that by using UC, you no longer need a melee weapon any longer.

For a lot of information about UC, have a look at a thread created by me called "Understanding UC". Easiest way to get to it (if search doesn't bring it up) is to click on my username, then look at all the threads I have created.

As for your questions;

1) No. Absoluty not worth it. You'll regret training UC.
2) No. The weapon will overide your UC, leaving it as wasted XP (bar the inherant Evasion given...)

It's better to use a weapon, if you want to get strong quickly. UC is quite weak actually.
And the UC-boosting items are a must. Without them it's even more worthless. But, it still
is a weapon which costs EXP instead of cash. :)
