You're not allowed to make a profit off of contests. You're not selling anything, so this shouldn't go in FS/WTB. You can't get around the 'no profit in contests' rule by pretending it's not a contest.

I would suggest you refund any money you have received for this contest so far and start a new one in the 'Contests' forum, and be sure to give away as much as you take in.

Have a nice day.

BrandonLP August 19 2005 8:24 AM EDT

It's a raffle in FS/WTB. As far as I know, he's not breaking any rules.

Wonderpuff August 19 2005 8:30 AM EDT

There's no rule being broken here. The product IS the lottery. Y'know... like a real lottery?

[EG] Almuric August 19 2005 8:33 AM EDT

Straight from the 'Contests' forum page: To remove the motivation for lame "contests" designed to benefit only their authors, any profit generated by a contest must be sent to TourneyPrizes. Item raffles may continue to be held in FS/WTB.

Tell me, oh enlightened one, what ITEM are you raffling off?

Wonderpuff August 19 2005 8:34 AM EDT

1.2 Million CB2, Duh.

Also, I asked first. Drive through please.

[EG] Almuric August 19 2005 8:39 AM EDT

I don't know who you asked, but whoever it was is an idiot. This is clearly against the rules. If this was allowed, everyone would do it. Who wouldn't want an easy $300K for doing nothing but filling in a table.

There's no gray area here. I've been here for 2 years. This is clearly not allowed. I'll shut up now. As soon as an admin comes on, I believe you'll be truly enlightened.

Nixon Jibfest August 19 2005 8:53 AM EDT

...or you'll be enlightened Almuric.

People are buying numbers and a chance to get 1.2M.

This isn't nearly as bad as FS posts where people bid on just the chance to pick a bonus. Blatantly selling 1.2M for 1.5M is another story, and my guess is that the CB community isn't going to buy into the concept, especially from a newbie.

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] August 19 2005 8:57 AM EDT

These "lotteries" have consistently been moved to Contests in the past, and as consistency in policy interpretation is what we require of our admins, you should expect it to end up in Contests whereupon the extra $300k will be subject to forfeit to Central Bank (as TP has no reason to exist).

Nixon Jibfest August 19 2005 9:02 AM EDT

if wonder had posted taht the lottery was for A Dagger and 1.2M, would we still be having this conversation? just curious?

AdminG Beee August 19 2005 9:25 AM EDT

Thread moved to contests.
Wonderpuff, kindly xfr the 300k to Central Bank (I'd have done it for you but you don't have that much) when you gather the cash, or return the funds you have already taken to the relevant users.
I will be watching :)

--

Obvious attempts to work around the policy by introducing a "dagger" into the raffle will be considered "lame" and users can expect to receive an appropriate "lame" penalty.

Contest Forum Policy Updated:
To remove the motivation for lame "contests" designed to benefit only their authors, any profit generated by a contest must be sent to Central Bank. Item only raffles may continue to be held in FS/WTB.

Wonderpuff August 19 2005 10:33 PM EDT

Sure. Just please don't pretend that I broke a rule until you changed it. I sent the guy back his money, btw.
