ding ding PM! (in General)

Sir Leon [Soup Ream] August 29 2005 8:55 PM EDT

Just a thought that im sure has gone through many peoples mind.

How about a Ding or an audible of some sort to notify you of PM's. Too many times have i not noticed a pm. So I was just thinking what if it had a Ding.

=D

good idea :)

Staind2b August 29 2005 8:58 PM EDT

I think this is also a good idea. Maybe it would be a good idea if you had options of what sounds to choose from in settings. Maybe make it a supporter option or something ;) Only if this is possible though, if not, then just a simple sound it good :)

SIr Leon made his mentee voted for this.

That'll waste too much work, how about we just make the text in PM,

REALLY BIG

?

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] August 29 2005 9:11 PM EDT

All the --------------->, ->->->->->, Hey, you, PM me!, isn't good enough?

Sir Leon [Soup Ream] August 29 2005 9:12 PM EDT

You wouldnt have to do that if you get a ding sound :P

so it could save room in chat

Lu Bu[willsue] August 29 2005 9:14 PM EDT

true true...good idea instead of spamming arrows :P

Xiaz on Hiatus August 29 2005 9:16 PM EDT

You know I disabled all sounds on MSN and ICQ for a reason, because they were ANNOYING AS HECK!

}--PM--->

Undertow August 29 2005 9:16 PM EDT

NO

I play at work.

Sir Leon [Soup Ream] August 29 2005 9:22 PM EDT

Well thats why it could be an option to either have it on or off

RedWolf August 29 2005 9:23 PM EDT

thats the point of an option so those who don't want it can turn it off :-P

Undertow August 29 2005 9:24 PM EDT

touche.

Now, the question is, would this be a change to the chat interface. Jon has said he won't do any coding on that.

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] August 29 2005 9:26 PM EDT

I bet some $$ might convince him otherwise :-P

Undertow August 29 2005 9:40 PM EDT

So do I, but whose gonna pay for a ding?

Shark August 29 2005 9:49 PM EDT

sorry Leon but I think this post just got entered into the FORS archive :)

Maelstrom August 29 2005 9:58 PM EDT

Personally, I hate all those irritating sounds. I disable all such sounds, and get really pissed off at a new program that scares me with one. One reason is that I'm always listening to music, and they destroy whatever song I happen to be listening to.

...anyway, since the chat is Java, I know that it should be very easy to have a sound play whenever some action occurs. So, I don't think it would take much time, but that doesn't mean I think the idea is worth the trouble!

From FAQS under chat

Q: Can you add this new feature?

A: Probably not. But hey, the source is linked right above this. You can make your own client that does anything you want. Hey, if it really is a rockin' idea, I'll even port it back to mine. :)
