What's the point of so many weapons? (in General)

Grim Reaper August 31 2005 3:23 AM EDT

What's the point of all the weapons that we have, there are so many of them around but do people even use them?

Only thing I know people would use is whips, weapons in their 40-50 base, a thf or a katana.I have seen plenty of people using compound bows so I that one is not useless. Now the primary weapons are those that are elite such as elbs, morgs, bones, vorpal blade, katana? Vorpal blade replaced it I bet. Also that single handed blade that leeches and the elven sword. So that is about it on the choices people would use on their tanks. I bet most use elbs with either morgs or bones.

So what can be done to make low weapons be more useful? I noticed on a low character that buying any weapon except the whip will cause pr to jump very high which means can't level.

the useless weapons that u call are useless now because the rare items before..are not as rare nowadays..so the rare items are now the norm..sadly..and the pr jump are due to the problem people had with nw..^_^

Tormentor, I <3 U! ;)

I made this point a while ago, and keep bringing it up.

Especially Tulwars! Who uses anything between a whip/dagger and THF upwards?

There is just no reason for them.

QBJohnnywas August 31 2005 4:09 AM EDT

Tulwar!!!

Because if they weren't there, what would the store spawn when it refreshes? The only thing in the stores would be rares, and that would make them not-so-rare...basically they are there to take up space :-D

Why are there no common tattoos then?

Mountain Man August 31 2005 8:23 AM EDT

all the common weapons should have a unique quality that makes the useful. ie rapiers, sabres and cutlasses can be equipped with a main gauche to give a swashbuckler effect, the polearms, when 4 minions equip the same kind function as a unit a can attack the same oppossing minion simutaineously. of course these abilities would not be powerful as a rares items but would make the lesser weapons useful until a rare could be attained. they would also be novel strats for farms. these are just some ideas, flame away!

my question is what is the most expensive weapon?because im just a newbie.

trigun August 31 2005 9:46 AM EDT

i like mountain man's idea.^_^

flamewind August 31 2005 10:02 AM EDT

Why does everyone hate the Tulwar and not the Awl-Pike or the War Hammer? Poor Tulwars.

Relic August 31 2005 10:02 AM EDT

The most expensive weapon is the Morgul Hammer.

There are "lesser" tattoos which are more common and generally sell for much less than normal tattoos (around 20-40k base). They have become somewhat problematic because tattoos have become more of an intense commitment due to recent changes which rendered using massive tattoos on small characters worthless (or to look at it another way, recent changes have enforced Jon's original intent to have tattoos grow with your character and be a longer-term strategy commitment). Therefore many new players are better off saving up for a normal tattoo.

As for all the common weapons, they have some short-term value as you build a character. A side-effect of the NUB is that new players tend to outstrip their usefulness very quickly. I personally don't even remember the weapons I used before I saved up for a Katana, and I started when the NUB was only about 75%. It seems to me that Katanas and Execs are cheap enough that NUB players can save up for them very quickly and tend to skip almost all the common weapons.

Undertow August 31 2005 11:34 AM EDT

Yah, if you don't have a NUB, and you start with a kat, your screwed.

You have to get yourself a whip. Then a rapier, then a main gauche, then a lucerine hammer, whatever. Work your way up.

THAT'S how you start tank, and still get rewards.

Same with ranged. Often time just HAVING a ranged weapon will get your to 10k mpr.

Also it would be so much easier for campers to get every rare over normal fighters/forgers getting the occassional one.
If you got rid of all common and semi-rare crap except daggers and whips all the rares would be even more prominent when they do appear.
With the large range of weapons that are currently available there are a few that look similar to rares and can occassionally create a second or 2 in hesitation. Also sheer number of them means a camper quickly scrolling through store may scroll over and have to return giving other people a chance at it also.
Making it so there are only a few lower end weapons would result in the only camping competition being between the very top campers.

I believe there are so many rares that rares are rare anymore. The fact that you can buy the most expensive item in the game within a month of saving shows that. Back in CB1, it would take $100 worth of CB just to get one lousy base ELB. I really think there are too many rares per player.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] August 31 2005 12:18 PM EDT

/me hasn't even got a rare yet, just 3 lousy supporter items, GO ME!
