Protection or GA? (in General)

Part-time Barman September 7 2005 11:19 AM EDT

I'm wondering whether to continue with GA on my minion 'Bounce', or put Protection on instead.

I've never really understood protection, and searches back through old threads leave me baffled.

since you don't seem to be going for ac i would say stick with ga and also try to add more hp when ever and where ever you can.

GA for sure, at lower levels it is king. Protection doesn't seem worthwhile until you get higher in levels and higher AC.

GA ROCKS!

The RoS increasing and protecting you AS makes your GA hugely effective...

I think your team is setup very well, though I personally hesitated to Go FB simply because I had no desire to watch my mages cook my team because they had too much HP.

Don't forget that if your FB mage lives to melee, he'll get creamed from the GA on your own team when he hits them for friendly damage.

lol G Max,
I used to Kill my own FF off from the GA, all I used the FF for was the first couple of rounds of massive damage, then let my GA do the rest.

ga in long run saves hp where protection only blocks like 1% dmg per point. If you compare the two you can end up saving really huge amount of hp with ga around since it kills off attackers, where protection just lowers dmg.

" protection only blocks like 1% dmg per point"

hahahahhahaha.

It's a bad idea to think of GA as "saving HP". GA is not a defensive spell in all actuality. It's only classified as a ED because it's casted on you and not the opponent. GA is purely offensive.

GA is damage directed only at attackers. All in all my own GA is probably half my offense, but only because I spend well more then half my xp on it. GA alone is worthless. You also need HP either as real HP or from AS as well. All my real HP, my AS, and my GA accounts for about 80% to 85% of all my MPR. Then again HP also has usefulness defensively since more of it means you live longer.

Protection on the other hand is aimed at protecting your team. However, protecting your team is only a worthy endeavor if you can outperform your opponent in melee rounds.

You have chosen to have both ranged DD spells and an archery tank. This means your main focus of attack is in the first three rounds of combat. You will be overpowered in melee rounds by people using BL and CoC so I advise that you stick with a more offensive approach. Going GA will grant you more damage in those first three rounds and will help you make up for your lack of damage if they out MPB you in melee. Therefore, your current set up of using GA over Protection is just fine in my opinion.

whats so funny fat tony, even ranger said each point in parenthesis is 1% dmg reduction.

It's not that funny. In cb1 it stacks with regular ac causing a minion to be invincible. Not that funny.

Grim Reaper September 9 2005 2:34 AM EDT

The reason I stated that GA is hp saver is that if you get protection, all it does is reduce % dmg. GA on other hand can kill a minion that is attacking causing that minion to slop lowering your hp. Now if you had a protection where it reduces 90-100% of the dmg, now there is something where ga would not be needed in.

I understood what you meant. I just don't think one should approach GA as a thing that will extend your battles because they won't. GA can only cause the battles to end sooner, not later.

Grim Reaper September 9 2005 4:07 AM EDT

well protection is better investment in that sense then. The sooner the battle ends the less hp u need.
