Here's a contest- whoever gives the most money to a Hurricane Katrina fund (Red Cross, reAct, etc.) gets everything on my character Northwind Highlanders. Post your donations and lets keep it honest please. Contest ends on the 30th of September.

There was a thread just a little while ago about this very thing. Mrwuss donated his 401K money, which was around 10K. I also donated almost 12K to the relief efforts. Let me see if I can find the post.

I know it might not be a donation, but i have taken in three refugee's , a couple and their three year old daughter. I dont have the real moneys to give back to the others who need the help, Me and AL ( unwantedmemories) are trying our best to help the three of the rebuild from scratc. Al has gotten JP ( the guy refugee ) a job down here in jacksonville. I have been doing my best to make sure that the daughter doesnt freak out due to the fact most of her friends are now passed on, she misses her cat, so we got her a new one, They have shelter, food, and clothes on there back now. If im right they will be living with us for about another 2-3 months untill they can go back to see if anything is still salvagable. so i know its not a hurricane fund, but it is a hurricane katrina Family reconstruction attempt. If this counts then enter me in the contest thing :)

Nice work Reyna, my family is in the middle of having a new home built, and we had thought to do that same thing, but it looks like there will be little need for this by the time our home will be finished. The world needs more people who will open their doors to their neighbors in need. Bless you and your family for your generosity.

I have the utmost respect for people who use their own time and resources to personally help the needy. It counts quite a bit Reyna.

I would like to add onto my Rey's post, this is not an entry though. The three that are living with us though comfortable to a point are still regaining hope that their lives will be regained, whether it be back in New Orleans, or here in Florida. Many of their friends have contacted us with information on the tragedy that has the city and the surronding area's in such turmoil and strife. So far the young man's job working at one of the airports near the river, has show to be no longer available as the hanger in which he worked out of is now 3-6 blocks in the city. Their town house has been reported as being submerged at one point to the second floor. Though the family that is staying with Rey and me are slowly becoming stronger there are many others that could use the same support as we have offered this family. Note that with all the money that is being donated, a warm bed, and the look on a 3 year olds face when she thinks that her pet has died, suddenly has another is priceless... Our hearts and thoughts go out to everyone...

On the day of the above post I had just gotten off the phone with putnam and cashed in my 401k and sent it all to americares, which handles money much better than the Red Cross IMO.

But I want nothing in return for doing it, it was needed.
