In the battles I lose to mages, their damage seems consistently higher throughout (which hurts after 15 rounds).
So does that mean that one random variable drives DD damage variability for the whole battle? If so, does it make more sense to set it per round? Or am I mistaken?

different types of dd do different damage at same level. There are variables such as in ranged combat there is penalty for the damage for fireball and Magic Missile. there is some thing else that drives the damage and yes it is possible that each round increases direct damage output but normally it would try and do the damage at its maximum when fighting 1 minion.

I'm thinking of 10 or 12 rounds of melee MM hitting one target - some battles have higher MM damage per melee round and higher averages. But my tank damage varies per hit - I hoped DD would do the same

sometimes I hit maximum damage and sometimes I hit low and sometimes I hit medium against same opponent in the first round of melee
I believe that all DD increases slightly in power as the melee rounds go up. Not that this has anything to do with the variability.
One fight versus Death (Sorry undertow! ;P ) taken from the firs two melee rounds. Single target, so no problems with damage splitting and no ranged penalty.

Looks like the damage is randomised per round, not fight.

I can't really get info on fighting against 1 minion doing more than 1 round since the person is dead in first round of melee.

Pretty varied for me, at least.

OK - thanks for the confirmation.
OB, was that in ranged though? If it was, you have to take into account the -30%/-20%/-10% damage reductions DD spells get.

there was a study over fireball and coc where coc started doing more damage in total over fireball after the 7th round
