Any anime fans? (in Off-topic)

chappy [Soup Ream] September 22 2005 11:29 AM EDT

I started thinking about anime while thinking about songs that make me smile ... I've been watching anime for a little while now and I just wanted to get an idea of who else at CB was into it. I like stuff like:

GANTZ
Cowbot Bebop
Gilgamesh
Appleseed (movie)

Those are just some of the more recent ones ... I'm not even going to get into the older stuff :P Who else is out there?

chappy [Soup Ream] September 22 2005 11:30 AM EDT

*Cowboy Bebop :( lol

HunterFrei September 22 2005 11:32 AM EDT

Samurai Champloo
Cowboy Beebop
Full Metal Alchemist

That's usually what i watch.

Stuff I'd Reccomend.

Movies;
Ghost in the Shell
Akira
Street Fighter (not alpha, the original)
Ninja Scroll
Legend of the Over fiend (If you can get past the, er, adult side of things...)
Fist of the North Star

Series;
The Guyver
Shaman King
One Piece
GitS: Stand Alone Complex
Magical Shopping Arcade (Watch the first episode only to set the scene. It sucks, the rest are brilliant!)
Van Helsing
Final Fantasy Unlimited

I'm sure there's more, I just can't think of any more at the moment!

InebriatedArsonist September 22 2005 12:35 PM EDT

Hey, there's nothing wrong with the classics! Galaxy Express 999, Venus Wars, Robot Carnival....

Biscuitback September 22 2005 1:36 PM EDT

ninja scroll is the bomb... probably my favorites.

Unwanted Memories September 22 2005 6:58 PM EDT

Magical shopping arcade was great. Im big on the older movies like, Robot carnival, Lensman, L.I.L.Y Cat, Tank Police.

Who Dunnit September 23 2005 2:31 PM EDT

Ha. anime??? Apple-seed was good breaking ground for many films to come........ but chaps..... gilgamesh????. too spacious, Spriggan was pretty tight... Akira, still ridged. Gantz would be all right had it not been severely slashed by the "lights on nobody's home" people in editing. G.I.T.S. still okay.. although i still find something left to be desired. Someone please let me know if they find something outside of the typical moral driven storyline. :)

HunterFrei September 23 2005 2:34 PM EDT

oh yeah,
Paranoia Agent

Desperado [Chaotic Serenity] September 23 2005 3:45 PM EDT

To Add To The List:
Rurouni Kenshin ~ Outlaw Star ~ Inuyasha ~ Wolfs Rain.

chappy [Soup Ream] September 23 2005 3:48 PM EDT

I was thinking of checking out Wolf's Rain ... you like it?

LumpBot September 23 2005 3:54 PM EDT

Gundam Wing
Evangelion
The rest were mentioned from others all ready
Anything with big robots or Ninjas

InebriatedArsonist September 23 2005 4:53 PM EDT

I liked Wolf's Rain, though some people I know found it too depressing. Give it a try.

Desperado [Chaotic Serenity] September 23 2005 11:31 PM EDT

I heard that Wolfs Rain is from the creaters of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo.

My vote goes towards GL's suggestion of OnePiece, what a HOOT! that anime cartoon is.
For anyone not in the know OnePiece is a kid with a rubber body who is trying to become a renowned pirate. First part of the description kind of makes me think of that guy from Fantastic 4.

Only ever enjoyed a few Anime, never really into them...

Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Samurai X.
Love Hina.

That's all I can remember ;)

[EG]Stump September 24 2005 8:09 AM EDT

Bubblegum Crisis
Bubblegum Crash
Bubblegum Crisis 2040
Ghost in the Shell
Vampire Hunter D
Akira
Legend of the Overfiend
Crying Freeman
Cutey Honey
Reign The Conqueror
Trigun
Neon Genesis Evangelion

all good stuff

Samurai Champloo = sucks Outlaw Star = sucks Hajime No Ippo is my fav anime and 2nd fav manga. Berserk is my fav manga the series good but nowhere as good as the manga. Bleach love both the manga and anime. Appleseed has the best animation but the story is a little lacking. here's my list of most of the amine I've seen. http://www.animenfo.com/myanimedb.php?userid=71358

TrueDevil [AAA] September 24 2005 12:23 PM EDT

You can't really judge anime being sucked just because you didn't like it you know... I would say it 'not interested to it, or that kind'.

Samurai Champloo was pretty good for a samurai-action type of anime. (Although the rap and all that stuff makes it kinda weird, but it's supposed to be half comedy anyway). Seriously, if I have to choose between Samurai Champloo, Peacemaker Kurogane, Samurai Gun, Samurai 7 and maybe Shura no Toki, I'd choose Samurai Champloo or Samurai 7 anytime.

For me, I don't really like classic anime myself (like very old stuff, lupin, astro boy, and the like)

TrueDevil [AAA] September 24 2005 12:29 PM EDT

I just realized that GL mentioned Magical Shopping Arcade (Abenobashi Mahou Shotengai), it's really a crazy sci-fi parody, definitely one of a kind, great stuff.

Oh and not to forget, FLCL.
