We need new ideas! Help! (in General)

AdminQBVerifex September 22 2005 2:11 PM EDT

We need some new ideas for great additions for CB. Trying to stay positive here.

Lets get some ideas that involve new changes. Something vast new, sweeping and great. New aspects of the game. Not new items. Something that adds a new dimension, something we can all get behind and be happy with. So we can do something besides fight. Maybe even something with a financial gain in it.

Any ideas? I'm lost here.

Biscuitback September 22 2005 2:12 PM EDT

well i just made a thread. i think it would be a good addition.

Stephen Young September 22 2005 2:35 PM EDT

Mini-games. All great RPG's/Strat games have Mini-games.

There's only a few that come to mind, but one idea would be some kind of trading card-esque game, where you collect different things, or some kind of time-waster for BA to recharge. Instead of the links page that sends you somewhere else after you use all of your BA, something that keeps you here on CB.

csraven September 22 2005 2:39 PM EDT

i like that idea a lot... but then again anything you do could be the time waster... you dont have to be on CB to burn time away... but it is something to think about

chappy [Soup Ream] September 22 2005 2:45 PM EDT

Interesting Idea Vamp King ... what comes to mind is the FF8 card game if anyone remembers ... Anything extra would be nice ... but have it to where you get some small CB rewards for doing well ... like some CH cash or BA .. but you would have to watch and make sure that the rewards were not too good :)

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] September 22 2005 2:47 PM EDT

OK this is not fleshed out by any means, but, to sort of simulate the camping idea, without camping:

A Merchant class

Say you buy a Merchant contract daily/weekly/monthly and it costs X. Once you have the Merchant contract you are given randomly generated opportunities via chatmail to purchase items at store prices, requiring you to respond within say one hour of reception of chatmail in order to execute. Then you can accept or decline the purchase offer. If you accept, money transfers, and you get the item, with the idea of reselling the item.

That is a big advantage so you will need some disadvantages while under contract.

First, no buying BA.
Second, a flat percentage decrease in all fighting rewards, could be 10% could be 90%, whatever makes it fair.
Third, no fighting clan points can be generated or you could even say you cannot be in a fighting clan while under contract forcing you to leave a clan in order to do so.
Fourth, no person with NUB can buy a contract (this gives the "elder" players some sort of benefit to maybe possibly counteract the NUB)

So, the obvious abuse is, you need an item, you become a merchant in hopes of getting that item cheaply. The restriction above could make that a lot less attractive, but you could include something like, if the item is still in your possession by the end of the contract, it is automatically sold back to the merhcant pool and your purchase price is refunded. This also keeps you from buying something that you cannot sell.

This is a bare bones idea. Certainly have not fleshed it out much, but wanted to toss it out there while it was in my head.

Comments, flames, etc are welcome :)

Stephen Young September 22 2005 3:28 PM EDT

Sefton, I would modify that idea a little (but I'm drunk, so it will have to wait. :)) but that is a cool idea.

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] September 22 2005 3:30 PM EDT

My idea: the encouragement of more drunken posting.

AdminG Beee September 22 2005 3:31 PM EDT

I would modify it too but I'm sober. I'll come back when I'm drunk.

Stephen Young September 22 2005 4:21 PM EDT

You guys are great. :P

AdminQBVerifex September 22 2005 4:26 PM EDT

Idea 1:   Potions, add abilities to a specific minion that last for a certain amount of attacks/BA.

Idea 2:   Making some system of multi-user combat, maybe for some kind of tournament or something. Where two users battle two other users. That would be a feat onto itself. So I'll leave it at that.

Idea 3:   This is out of left field, but maybe have a weather system in CB. Where the "blender" controls the weather, and depending on the weather during a time of day or whatever, the conditions of combat change, sometimes maybe favorable to some and unfavorably to others.

Its the beavers, they control the matrix.... no more needs to be said.

Vaynard [Fees Dirt Cheap] September 22 2005 4:41 PM EDT

How about each team is able to specialize against one damage type? For example, they could be somewhat resilient to either fire, cold, magic missile, ranged weapon attacks, or melee weapon attacks? I guess it could be a new class of Enchantments- say 'personal defense enchantment.' Say your damage from a source you are resilient to would be reduced by an extra 25% before normal reductions. That'd be a lot of work for jon though, I'm sure. But that's my silly, crazy, and thoughtful idea of the day.

The reason I offer it is that I'm just sick of being owned by fireball teams of all sizes, and would love a way to stop or slow down all those teams with almost no networth and that are smaller than me and that are beating up my $30 million NW tank.

Of course, they could damper my melee damage as well- but that'd leave them open to all other damage types. Same with me. If we all had this option, it wouldn't be overpowering for any one person and would add just another little strategic element. You could make your team extremely effective vs one team type, or help cover your weakness. You get the picture.

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] September 22 2005 5:20 PM EDT

An add on to the Merchant class idea, the contracts could spawn into a 24 auction, so that the price of the contracts could for the most part be determined by demand. This would also limit the number of contracts avialable, so that not everyone who wanted to be a Merchant could necessarily get one.

Will [Retired] September 22 2005 5:30 PM EDT

now thats a good idea

AdminQBVerifex September 22 2005 5:54 PM EDT

Imagine that, the campers are suggesting adding features to CB so that they can go back to camping again...

/me is not surprised.

QBOddBird September 22 2005 6:03 PM EDT

I like the idea of perhaps some sort of rare items that becomes available in auctions for the week of the major holidays, a sort of commemorative item.

Example: The Santa Hat, a Corn that does 1.1% increase in Enchant spells instead of 1%....not that big of a deal, but due to the high rarity, commemorative occasion, one-time buyability (<~~~~ someone find me a better word here) option, and slightly increased effects, it would be worth an enormous amount.

Will [Retired] September 22 2005 6:06 PM EDT

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] September 22 2005 6:18 PM EDT

Expand on the forge. Let people create characters that create items. No idea how this would work.

Introduce a hospital. Have people do forge lke processes to heal people.

Make people have to go to other charcater, those with higher level to train. Make it interactive.

It's late.

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] September 22 2005 6:24 PM EDT

Well I am wont say I am "the campers" but I was a camper yes. And you wanted a new idea, it is new. Not suggesting you have to like it, but to simply imply that it is a bad idea simply because it comes from a camper speaks volumes about you.

AdminQBVerifex September 22 2005 6:37 PM EDT

The whole idea is like the black market, but on a individual level. I can see how it would add to the "people wanting to make profit off items" part of the game, but other then that, I don't really understand what a merchant class would add to the game.

I was simply pointing out the fact that you are a camper for those who might not know. ;P Like, for instance, if I suggested something that primarily benefitted the 3 ETM minion strategy, and I think it should be included that I'm using that same strategy, just to be fair and honest.

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] September 22 2005 6:58 PM EDT

"Maybe even something with a financial gain in it."

I assumed that was what you were looking for. It would reintroduce the value of the economic clans. It would allow for the "concept" of camping to return without opportunity for cheating (at least in the sense of using a technical trick to your advantage) and it would add another dimension to the game besides new items.

Perhaps, it is your original post that is unclear. Perhaps rather than stating the rather well known fact that I was a camper you should have said,

"Maybe even something with a financial gain in it, besides anything that would resemble the recently removed camping"

And since not one other camper posted any ideas or even affirmation of my idea, to say "the campers are suggesting adding features to CB so that they can go back to camping again... " is rather unfair to every other person who was a camper or ever enjoyed camping. It was not THE campers, it was me Sefton.

And to your post against the idea with some substance, the big difference between the black market and my idea is the profiteer is now a player on CB not a piece of the game system, which in turn goes to your ORIGINAL post saying something with financial gain.

However, I get the hint, my suggestion in unwelcome, so I will leave you to it, and good luck!

QBJohnnywas September 22 2005 7:04 PM EDT

Drunken posting. That's the best idea yet... although there a few people who already make a habit of that one.....I'll mention no names, they know who they are... and possibly me on occasion....

But seriously folks: how about random rewards given to top stat holders - for instance one week the top clan MVP gets a prize; the following week the top protection stat holder and yes every so often the top character - just to offset their not so high rewards!

Or maybe a prize given to the best new FORS idea - we could have a poll!

Nah, lets stick to drunken posting. I love you all!

maulaxe September 22 2005 7:06 PM EDT

about Sefton's idea, it would take any and all skill out of the process. as much as I like the idea of randomness governing who gets items, I'm sure it would not be nearly as fun as camping was. (until the human element was out-done by the scripts)

QBJohnnywas September 22 2005 7:11 PM EDT

This would be an out of control idea and will probably only ever exist in my imagination but I'd love to see a magical forge where you could put enchantments into weapons/armour. You could create your own Morg, or at least a cut down version - maybe a VA Tulwar for instance - where's GL? - and to keep the value of the Morg, the shop version would be affected by DM and never be allowed over say 5%.

I like this idea but I don't think it would ever ever happen.....

trigun September 22 2005 7:20 PM EDT

on expanding the forge..how bout a merge system that combines two weak weapons to a stronger one..and u need a combination of items (ie even armour) plus the stronger one to make a better one..?^_^

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] September 22 2005 7:23 PM EDT

I'm here! Not drunk yet although (mystical being of choice) knows I so wanna be... Subtle hints FTW! ;)

Nothing will make Tulwars good. ;) But some addition to the forge would be cool!

trigun September 22 2005 7:33 PM EDT

a sphere system which can grow with exp but has a limit (like the materia system in ff7) and/or accessories like rings, bangles, bracelets, earrings and necklaces would add a totally new dimension to this game...and i like the card idea from ff8..hehe

and since we are taking ideas from ff games..how bout poker machines like in ff7..where u buy tokens and just hope u get tickets to exchange for items..^_^

how bout a steal skill? getting some of the money rewards of your opponent whether u win or lose..all random of course.^_^

  • Ability to imbue ones weapon with a special property (paying either $CB or $USD), possible a + to DX, + to ST, + to VA, + to HP even, or a melee weapon that drains DX/ST but has low base damage, say ~60.
  • Able to have fighting formations, say two minions at front so they take the damage spread over both of them, and so forth.
  • Ability to fight a whole clan, either by yourself or with your clan mates, a clan war type system, but the lower team gets a slight advantage. It'd really boost clan warfare and clan rivalry/alliances would be great.
  • Ability to imbue a whole character team with some enchantment, or give it a class, e.g. Elven, Ogre, Dwarf, Human etc. Each having it's one bonuses and penalties. Again, will increase strategy playing. Payable by CB, MPR/PR will dictate the cost.
  • Xiaz on Hiatus September 22 2005 7:51 PM EDT

  • Give clans the option to either have a $ clan bonus, or a EXP clan bonus. Really be great ;)
  • Ability to extend a rental period, say you put an item in for 5 days, it's about to pop back out, you can extend the rental period so it doesn't pop out (yet).
  • Auto bidding on auctions, would help us people not in the correct timezones, then again, maybe it's part of gameplay eh?
  • Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] September 22 2005 8:11 PM EDT

the leaders on the current winning streak should get some sort of prize.
