Can Java auto update without your consent?

I've got no chat. I have not updated java. I do not know how to check my java version. I'm running FF on windows XP. I am not having a problem in IE.

Need any other info?

click web features and make sure that enable java is enabled.

And allow java scripts enabled too.

Both already checked.

Have you checked your settings in CB? Did you turn off chat? :P

go to setting -->Enable chat (to turn chat off) and Enable again to "restart java"

I should mention: Chat does appear, but it's a red X. And it's a different red X than I usually see anywhere else.

See the Java link on Control Panel for (amongst other things) the Auto-update "feature".

Here lies an extension to bartjan's comment. That is if you like visiting websites better...=p

couldn't write java cause of the spell checker...=T

bartjan September 28 2005 5:58 AM EDT

Why, the spell checker has no problem at all with the word Java...
Or did you try to write something *in* Java?

Also, his problem was not getting the latest version, but instead staying at a version that used to work...

haha, fixed.

I haven't closed FF in days, but closing it and reopening it fixed the problem.

Sorry, figured a forced refresh of the page would be enough.

=_=;;

P.S. ahh yes, wrote Java with a small "j"..sorry about that...=p
