Funny thing, lag. (in General)

I just got home. Found my computer off and all the various digital clocks blinking. We've obviously lost power around here. No biggie.

Power up my machine, log in and start using up BA. I have no lag, whatsoever. This is very, very unusual for me. Using up BA lags terribly for me. On average, I would guess it takes me 4 seconds per BA used. Right now, fighting is almost instantaneous.

Can anyone figure out why? I'll give you some time. Give up? It's because everybody else's computer around here is down, too. And most of them are still off, since not everyone is home yet. I would bet (and I'd put a good bit of money on this) that's it's mostly bit-torrent traffic. Comcast cable is probably saturated most days.

I bet it'll be back to lagging in a couple of hours. But right now, as the song says, "the living's easy". Internet, the way it's meant to be.

On a tangential but completely related note, there's big machinery on my cul-de-sac. They're evidently going to tear up the pavement. One of my neighbors says they're gonna put down fiber-optic cable. I don't know where he got his info from. I'm doubtful. (Rarely disappointed, this way.). I sent an email to the highway planning department today but haven't got a reply yet.

Fiber to my house. Man, that'd be sweet. How much is an OC-48 these days. ;}

I don't think most of my neighbors know what bittorrent is. My comcast connection is usually pretty fast... except when it's down, which is several times a week.

/not impressed

I feel your pain...oh I feel it.

I use Charter cable, and I have the same issue. When prime time hits I can feel it, calling to complain makes no difference as in the TOS they only say they will provide 128k over the average of 24 hours.

That and explaining anything to customer service is close to pulling teeth with a rusty butter knife.
