Grant's Stratedge - Cabasset value (in General)

In Grant's Stratedgy there is a section that claims that Hard Leather Caps have a better upgrade curve than Cabassets. Is this still true? I seem to find that at every stage, the NW of the Cabasset is less (up to an AC of 10 (3+7 and 2+8)). What is meant by this section of his stratedgy?

Just avoid the math and use only Corns :p

it is true if you go by the +, but considering cab has 3 base ac it would have better ac.

Now if you just go by the upgraded ac where you need that to reduce dmg against mages, then the leather cap is better.

Using the networths of the past auctions, and the fact that a Hard Leather Cap with 1 AC more is (slightly) better, we get the following table:

CabassetNWHard Leather CapNW
A Cabasset [3]$842
A Cabasset [3] (+3)$3,761A Hard Leather Cap [2] (+4)$5,649
A Cabasset [3] (+4)$6,623A Hard Leather Cap [2] (+5)$10,097
A Cabasset [3] (+5)$11,824A Hard Leather Cap [2] (+6)$18,179
A Cabasset [3] (+6)$21,274A Hard Leather Cap [2] (+7)$32,865
A Cabasset [3] (+7)$38,444A Hard Leather Cap [2] (+8)$59,549
A Hard Leather Cap [2] (+9)$108,033
A Cabasset [3] (+9)$126,327
A Cabasset [3] (+10)$229,322A Hard Leather Cap [2] (+11)$356,191

So based on this table, Cabassets are more value for money (unless that 1 extra magic only AC is very important to you)...

This table makes perfect sense. Thank you, both. I defintely understand now.
