As most of you know I recently sold my characters and stuff. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that contributed (either through bids or general help.) The money that I got from my sale meant more to me than I could ever explain to you (though I will try)
When I got off work Thursday night I got an email from Melissa (my daughters' mother) who lives in Houston with my girls. It seems that she had taken my oldest in for what she believed to be pinkeye but it turned out to be much worse than that. My daughter had a tumor behind her left eye (retinal blastoma (sp?) for those of you in the medical profession) and they were going to have to do surgery to remove both the tumor and her eye the next morning. I immediately started getting a plan together to fly down there.
I managed to get a last minute flight and was able to get there right as she was going into surgery. My daughter came through the surgery rather well (though there was one complication that caused her to be on a ventilator for a couple of days but she is a fighter and came through that very well also.) She will be getting a prosthetic soon but has already started adapting to the loss of sight (specifically depth perception.)
Now we just have the task of waiting to get results back from different doctors to see how bad the situation is. We know that her sister (and myself) will also have to be tested for the same thing (the likelyhood for developing this is partially genetic) but the truly agonizing wait will be to see if the tumor (which was cancerous) spread down the optic nerve and to her brain or if they got all of it in the surgery. She has had a CT scan and is going in for a MRI soon to check everything tou but the doctors seem confident that they got it all.
Any of you that have children understand how important it was for me to be there. The extra money that I had from my sale paid for the flight down and most of my hotel while I was there. Having the extra cash is what made the difference in me just being able to pack up and leave and me having to juggle things to try and get the finances together and I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that helped me be able to be there for my little girl.
