idea for new Xbow (in General)

WeaponX November 25 2005 8:38 PM EST

Mute Crossbow this weapons seeks the highest DD trained and reduces the DD level of it's victim. the reduction would be the same as ax/exbow. how bout it fellas?

Synco November 25 2005 8:48 PM EST

Use seekers.

WeaponX November 25 2005 8:49 PM EST

missed the DD reduction part didn't you...

Synco November 25 2005 8:54 PM EST

Then mages are going to start complaining.

"Hey, tanks can kill us seekers, and the Mutebow! But tanks can only be targeted with Ax/Exbow. Jon should create ammo that hit highest DX and highest ST."

I don't think the DD drain is that great compared to massive damage using an ELB and seekers.

Synco November 25 2005 8:55 PM EST

kill us with seekers*

priceless gems November 25 2005 9:04 PM EST

there is one that targets highest STR. regular bolts do that dont they?

priceless gems November 25 2005 9:08 PM EST

oh nvm they only do that with assassin's and enforcer's. disregard my previous post.

ive got an idea.... THE MAGIC bullet ARROW. it hits multiple opponents at once.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] November 26 2005 12:12 AM EST

AMF and seekers really not enough?

Vaynard [Fees Dirt Cheap] November 26 2005 12:26 AM EST

Oh yes, I love the logic. You can beat us by spending large sums of money on specialty rare ammo! So obviously nothing else matters and no changes are needed!

:(

For one thing, have you tried seekers on an xbow of any kind? I have. And I have one of the larger AXBows in the game. And know what? Despite my seekers being oversized, x5+5 if I remember right, they made no difference. And you may say ELBow is helped more by seekers- and yes I'm sure it is. But he's not suggesting a new bow, is he? No, it's a hxbow type.

Plus, it is always nice to have more diversity. Who cares if a tank with an ELBow and seekers can beat mages? Guess what? ELBow and seekers can beat a lot of teams, not just mages. And what does it hurt to have another way to kill mages? I'm sure Jon would do a fine job balancing it if he ever did add in a new xbow of any sort to the game.

MrC [DodgingTheEvilForgeFees] November 26 2005 12:52 AM EST

No offense intended, but it would be horrible.

Mages don't use NW. Tanks do.
To allow tanks to not only out damage a mage due to high NW, but to also have the MPR advantage simply because they have a lot of money is not a good thing.

This just helps the USD spenders and hurts the poor.

St00pidSucks November 26 2005 1:00 AM EST

AMF does all of this

Vaynard [Fees Dirt Cheap] November 26 2005 1:00 AM EST

Out damage? With an xbow? Tried an xbow recently? I know 10mill NW on one isn't that much compared to a lot of people, but I tell you what. I don't outdamage mages in ranged with my weapon ever (excluding CoC & decay of course), except for if my AMF wipes them out too. Maybe base damage and x upgrading could be more expensive. Again- I'm sure Jon would know best. But I can not possibly see an xbow outdamaging a half-way decent FB mage.

Back onto my original point, of responding to MrChuckles: you won't be outdamaging them in ranged. Plain and simple. And I'm sure you wouldn't see as much drain on DD as it does on DX or ST anyway. Jon would balance it. On second thought though, it would have to have a steep upgrade curve and be made difficult to use in order to prevent those rich kids we have around here from abusing it.

MrC [DodgingTheEvilForgeFees] November 26 2005 1:07 AM EST

Vaynard, sorry, maybe I wasn't clear enough..

I did not mean that you could do more damage with a crossbow than a mage could with his DD.
I meant that you can do more damage with your primary weapon, if you are wealthy anyway.

Combining that with a 'Mute Crossbow' is not fair to mages.

Special J November 26 2005 1:20 AM EST

Then change your strat or get used to not beating mages, the answer to your loses is not a new item.

Vaynard [Fees Dirt Cheap] November 26 2005 1:21 AM EST

Okay, sorry to have misinterpreted you. You do raise a valid point, and I'm sure that is something Jon would have to figure out. Personally, I was thinking that perhaps wearing it would mean no melee weapon on that minion. But then large numbers of minions would rule. Perhaps it could deal HP damage to the equipped minion equal to the DD drained. But I am sure Jon could work something out. It's just a matter of if he wants to.

maulaxe November 26 2005 3:46 AM EST

you can outdamage mages, but it takes multiple hits.

colonel [penny pincher] November 26 2005 4:05 AM EST

I miss the old Sling of David.

CmdrHawkeye November 28 2005 10:14 AM EST

I think it is something to consider but how about it has a drain ability such as it drains power from a skill and gives it to you know that would be a weapon!

HunterFrei November 28 2005 10:28 AM EST

I don't see this coming about since all it would take to be effective would be enchanters using the weapon. It doesn't take much dex to get multiple hits versus someone with a 20 dex. With a 100 dex, an enchanter can hit a total of four times during ranged with an hxbow, barring there is no PTH hits. Now, multiply that number by the number of enchanters using the weapon and you've got a crippled mage to deal with.
