Weither you are at work, or just hanging out, I want to know what you listen to. Does it depend on your mood? Also, who is your favourite singer/s and/or band.

However I also listen to stuff like Coldplay, Metric, Cake, Soul Coughing, Hot Hot Heat, the Bravery, Nine Black Alps, the Dining Rooms, Squarepusher, Juno Reactor, Four Tet, Air, M83, Sigur Ros, and yeah I'm rambling now.... :-P

Right now King Geedorah. I like...
TheUSAisaMonster, GY!BE, Merzbow, Sole, Cage, pretty much anything on Def Jux, Album Leaf, An Albatross, Autechre, Battles, Boards of Canada, Deltron 3030, Do Make Say Think, Elliott Smith, Wu-Tang Clan!, Excepter, Neon Hunk, Le Fly Pan Am, Jaga Jazzist, Sun Ra, ahh Jandek so eerie, Melt Banana!, Neutral Milk Hotel, Nihilist Spasm Band, Mindflayer, Lightning Bolt, umm No Neck Blues Band, Prefuse 73, Radiohead duh, RJD2, Sunburned Hand of the Man, Velvet Underground, Wolf Eyes, Venetian Snares, Squarepusher.... What can I say....
KoRn... ; P
Nine Inch Nails (I love that song....The Hand that Feeds)
Powerman 5000 (w0000t)
and a little Rammstein on the side : )
I listen to a pretty good variety of stuff, although I suppose alternative and rock are my favorites. My favorite band is the Goo Goo Dolls.
I haven't bothered to unpack my CDs or load all my mp3s onto this computer in the 6 months since my move. I find I get enough variety and interest from streaming radio.
Lately I've spent most of my time listening to
"Digitally Imported - Vocal Trance" ( http://69.9.183.66:7004 )
A good dance/trance station with nice vocals
and
"Secret Agent: For Spys and P.I.'s" ( http://64.236.34.196:80/stream/1021 )
A laidback lounge-y type station with amusing clips from Bond movies (and a few other places)

I'm currently catching up on some old Blood Hound Gang.
I have a tendency to listen to Jealous Sound, Muse, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (Its tough to be a Gimme), Lucky Boys Confusion, Incubus, Guster, Filter, Death Cab for Cutie, Ben Folds, Placebo, Postal Service, Rufus Wainwright, My Chemical Romance, Stabbing Westward, They Might Be Giants (I've got a fang.), and Weezer (not there latest album, it sucked).
My favorite songs are 'Sweetness' by Jimmy Eat World, 'The Drugs Don't Work' by Verve, 'Hotel California' by the Eagles, and 'OK Computer' by Radio Head
My favorite artist might be Ben Gibbard of Postal Service/Death Cab.

I'm going to fly the flag for some of the original British punk/new wave stuff which I'm listening to: (and yes, I know that The Ramones came first)
The Clash, The Jam, The Sex Pistols, The Stranglers, The Damned, Stiff Little Fingers, The Undertones, Wire, The Ruts, The Buzzcocks, Generation X, Siouxie and The Banshees, Ian Dury, Adam and the Ants, XTC.
If you like anything described as Punk then it's worth checking out the old stuff. Any of the people listed did at least one track that's worth listening to.
Check out
Complete Control by The Clash
Down In The Tube Station At Midnight by The Jam
Pretty Vacant by The Sex Pistols
No More Heroes by The Stranglers
New Rose by The Damned
Johnnywas by Stiff Little Fingers
Teenage Kicks by The Undertones
Dot Dash by Wire
Babylons Burning by The Ruts
Ever Fallen In Love by The Buzzcocks
King Rocker by Generation X
Hong Kong Garden by Siouxie and The Banshees
What A Waste by Ian Dury
Beat My Guest by Adam And The Ants
This Is Pop by XTC.
All of the artists listed did much more that's worth listening to but these are good starting points if you've never heard them. ;)

Off the top of my head. Ben Harper, Bjork, Dispatch, Emiliana Torrini, Jack Johnson, John Butler (Trio), John Mayer (Trio), Keane, Live, Postal Service, SRV, Grand Central Band.
Basically my ideal music is very 'chill out.' Genre wise, jazz, blues, acoustics, female vocals, alternative. Old school music is good too, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, John Lennon, Fela Kuti. :)
Favourite changes, but enjoy John Mayer, his new stuff is sweet.
You forgot the Midlands own "The Beat" in that list Johnny.
I'd also have to chip in Prodigy to the great punk line up.
I'll add Blur, The Pixies and The Doors with some Megadeth to those 2 and all of Johnny's.
The old days of British punk! you can't beat it :D

RAMPAGE
February 28 2006 4:46 PM EST
RAMPAGE mostly just listens to the voices in his head.
If it sounds good, I generally like it. I have no genre. Half the time I don't even know who's singing. And just to list a few: System of a Down, Assemblage23, Breaking Benjamin, VNV Nation, Black Eyed Peas, Tantric, Incubus, Thousand Foot Krutch, Nelly, and various Country artists as well. (Told you i've no genre)

February 28 2006 5:39 PM EST
Ah, Barzoo you made me dig out 'Rope'. I love The Clash. One of the reasons I first picked up a guitar. And the reason my first guitar was a Telecaster.
"Tommy Gahn! You ain't happy less you gaht won!"
Yes. I know. That isn't the lyric. But it sounds like Strummer, right? ;)

Have you heard of the Canadian group Bedouin Soundclash? They're heavily influenced by The Clash, and they're pretty good. Check them out. I saw them play live in December...

Aww, i can not believe you all have missed one of the most influentinal Punk bands of all time..The Misfits..well at least when they had Danzig, now he just does thrash core, and death metal..But i am metal head, more into the melodic death metal scene, ie Lacuna Coil, Nightwish, Dark tranqulity, and a few others..But Soilwork rocks, Atreyu, Killswitch, too many to list..and the spellcheck hates me, so i will try a couple of of more bands, such as Guns and Roses, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, and Kansas(classic rock)
The Stooges influenced punk the most and were the best.
Even though Punk is pretty much a dead genre anyway and just nostalgia at this point.

February 28 2006 7:16 PM EST
I think you're right there Ox; punk became a musical style just like jazz or blues about 5 minutes after it started. But that's what happens to most music, if not all; people start to think there are rules that you have to follow to be authentic. And that's when they all become a dead style. Doesn't stop me listening to new bands but I do like to hear people taking risks once in a while instead of sticking to the blueprint. It's why I got into the techno end of dance music, and someone like Aphex Twin. Now he was an original!
IDM like Aphex Twin is good. If you like IDM, you should listen to Venetian Snares, Squarepusher, Amon Tobin, and stuff like Battles.
QBJohnnywas
February 28 2006 7:22 PM EST
Yeah, Squarepusher's good. I just heard Battles a couple of weeks ago, what I heard sounded pretty good too. I'll check out the rest. That's what I like about these posts - which is why I started one of these myself a few months ago. People put names out there that you don't know and you get to find new stuff. That's what music's about for me - there's always something new to discover, whether it's old stuff you missed or new stuff you haven't heard of yet! ;)

Like I always say. Genres are a fan thing, it's not something a band should aspire to. They shouldn't concern themselves with being Punk or Metal or Alternative. Some bands do, but there are a lot out there just trying to make a sound they like. Others are just absorbing the sound of the local scene and not even thinking about being different or being the same.
Think of yourself as an artist trying to develop a sound that's unique to you. Now think of the audacity of some hack columnist trying to stratify your sound in a few words that lumps you up with bands you love to hate. In the end categorization never works. Like Johnny says, once you've set up some ground rules you've already lost the whole point.
That's why its best to ask not _what_ you like, but _who_ you like. All in all I like how this post is working out.

THE TREWS
They are currently touring the US, look em up, they are from my little town in Nova Scotia :D I used to be good friends with them, well, I was like 5 and they were teens, but you know :p
With all this punk rock talk it got me pretty excited. I am in a punk band The Avoided here in Milwaukee, WI. We just got booked to play with The Street Brats, A Global Threat, and The Subhumans. Most of the punk that you guys listed were good, no lie there, however, that is just one form of it. Nobody really listed any hardcore punk, which is one of the defining features of the music.
GG Allin of course is God.
