discretion the better part of valor (in Off-topic)

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] March 27 2006 6:55 PM EST

OK, honestly its not intentional. It really is not, but I felt it prudent to create my OWN post versus tempting fate, poking the hornet's nest, and putting this in a current post.

Sefton and GW use the built in CM system to go back and forth.

--Special J, 6:17 PM EST

Special J, while you might argue that our most recent points were not "on topic" to suggest that the CM system is better for back and forth discussion is silly. The CM sucks for back and forth discussion. Forums were BUILT for it.

You can use formatting and paragraphs to better seperate ideas and concepts, you cannot even get a TAB into CM's. So, while you might say that our discussion may not have been on topic to the "admin fining problem" issue (and I think it is but discretion is the better part of valor) I am continuing not in CM but here, in this my very own post in which I welcome and want back and forth discussion.

SO that said, if you are not done GW here is the place to not be done at.

AND for BM, while entertaining your story about the 7 and 9 year old is not relevant. The reason pizza oven does not effect me has nothing to do with selfishness (which I proclaim to have) altruistic desire or the defense of persecution. It has everything to do with intelligence and logic. While I would not expect intelligence and logic to work on a 7 year old, and you obviously have seen it does not work with him, why would you expect nonsense to work on me? It has nothing to do with selfishness and everything to do with intelligence.

Let me relate my own story from my days of religous exploration. According to certain mystical jewish texts, when Moses walked off the mountain and said to the masses, these are the 10 commandments, abide or be judged, he did it with other knowledge given to him by God, which he was supposed to give to the scholarly and learned so that they might meet God.

The end result, use simple terms to satisfy simple people and make them simply happy.

I am not simple. You may think me a LOT of things perhaps many of them unkind, but I doubt anyone who has read my posts would consider me simple. Pizza oven while cute and simple does not do anything for me to persuade or disuade my opinion that Less is More when it comes to administrative action. Its that simple.

Simpleton.

LOL pot (Bast) this is kettle (Sefton) you are BOTH black

QBBarzooMonkey March 27 2006 7:06 PM EST

Quite the contrary, Sefton, I think quite highly of you, and find you quite the polar opposite of simple.

My "cute and simple" story was merely meant to infer that taking that particular thread, with all of its arguments from both sides, to nearly 100 posts, was becoming a trivial, childlike endeavor.

No offense was meant to you in particular.

Now I am going to walk away from this thread, too.

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] March 27 2006 7:16 PM EST

Thats cool BM. I certainly did not create this post for us to flame away, just more so you did not think I choose not to respond to you. And I agree with you, there is nothing constructive left for that post, so if that was your point, I agree.

But the part I wanted to make sure was not the point was about the reason why "pizza oven" will not work.

I have no idea how my posts got inferred to be some sort of altruistic defense of the down trodden and persecuted. I simply believe we will have a better community here if every other post is not scutinized and fined for some minor infraction.

Instead pay attention the the content, and let admins take care of policing the masses, and have the admins looking at the infraction and gauging is damage before they act on fining.

If someone bumps their post once, 10 hours instead of 12 hours later, how damaging is that?

If someone uses a few too many CAPS in a title, how damaging is that?

Anyway, in the end, I realize this will make no difference no change, no one will listen or act, but I FEEL BETTER :)

Even though I couldn't get past the second or third sentance, I have something important to say:

Odoyle rules!

Seft, a couple of things....

Firstly 'simple' is a much maligned word. Simplicity for me is something to cherish, something to aim for. I like the KISS method, the 'keep it simple stupid' way of doing things. Simplicity is for me a very difficult thing to achieve. We spend a lot of time complicating our lives when actually it's often the simplest things that work best.

There is also nothing wrong with being childlike - children have a beautiful way of looking at the world. Childish on the other hand is a state of mind that I actually associate with more adults than children and is something to be avoided.
==============================================

The problem with your less is more approach to administration is that you are relying on people to be mature, intelligent and responsible. This is admirable and relates firmly to my own 'do unto others as you would be done by' approach. Unfortunately, and this is only my own experience talking, people will always let you down.

Less obtrusive, more intelligent policing relies on people taking responsibility for their actions. Some will step up to the plate at this point. Others will always feel the need to see what their limits are, and I mean this in the way a child will push their parents with bad behaviour. And when they make a choice that is a wrong one they will use their 'freedom' as an excuse. "I didn't know it was wrong to do that because you didn't tell me what was right" will be their mantra.

We have many intelligent, mature community members here and I would like to think that those are the majority of players and administration. But there will always be times when people are less intelligent, less mature. We will always have people who will behave badly, who are not kind or good natured. It's human nature unfortunately.

JW, I liked it better when you were channeling John Lennon.

Imagine

Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...

Imagine there's no countries,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] March 28 2006 12:14 AM EST
