Decay and PL (in General)

Just thought I should let everyone know. This does seem pretty duh but when I realized it I let out a low whistle. Decay has always drove players nuts because it wrecks char's with no AMF. Well PL absorbs Decay damage just as well as it absorbs other spell and melee damage. Makes DM much more useful imo. Let me know your opinions or if you already knew this and I am just coming late.
Nice catch! :D I'd compeltely forgot about how PL would interact with Decay! :D
a 20 HP minion with a PL minion behind him would be the perfect Decay eliminator...wow yet another things Pl breaks...

Sorry YOU I would but I just started using PL and am about. All I did was note in during one battle. I use AMF so I really can't test it well. But I hope someone does.
*keeps eyes from bulging out of his head*
minion A in front has 20 HP, gets hit with decay for say 10 hp, PL absorbs it, and keeps doing so ad infinitum

That was why I said that Decay was pointless once PL came out in the changelog. You can also think of it as boosting decay to if your opponent is using PL. Say that the first minion is a wall and another minion in the back has PL. Until the PL minion dies the damage that decay does will be constantly half of what the walls hp was, depending if the opponent has antimagic or not.

Not entirely correct...PL renders decay useless, or relatively so, as long as you assume that the only damage on the opposing team is Decay.
If the damage caused to the minion is higher than the minion's HP, from what I've seen, the minion in question dies instantly, before PL kicks in.
And it's not hard to cause 20 points of damage.

Nope, that's wrong, Asura. It was just confirmed in my other thread that, coincidentally, you just posted in.

rrgh.
Must remember to read full text of thread. *bangs head against keyboard*
Alright, well, I'm sure you'll all forgive me if I think 'that's kinda dumb' in the back of my head...'
And, incidently, tested and confirmed. PL draws all damage, even if that damage would have slaughtered the hit minion like a fattened hog.
Decay targets the minion with the largest HP. So the PL minion would have to have 20HP as well, letting decay kill him in two rounds...

Uhm...it does?
I've enver seen it do that...I know when it's used against me, it invariably hits my first minion, who most definitely does not have the most hp, and there's nothing in the Help/Magic Spells/DD wiki that says that...
:? I'm sure Decay targets the minion with the largest HPs.. Otherwise it would just hit the 20HP meatshield and do 10, 5, 2, 1, 0, 0... etc damage.
I'll go test.
Well I'll be! It does hit the first minion in line... I was sure it didn't! ;)
GL: that's worse than me not knowing the RoS blocked your own DM (I inked the first one)

So a 20 HP wall with 250 AC seems like a pretty good idea now, no? Replace CMLs with EBs and give him EGs, then drop a big Evasion on him.....2fold purpose.

A 20 HP wall is only a good idea if Decay is involved, yes? Jonathan changed it so that if damage totally obliterates the front person (and PL minion behind cannot absorb it all), then that front minion dies and PL does not fire at all.
Decay is still susceptible because it can never kill, and does low damage against a 20 HP target. So yes, PL (even at very low levels) is a serious thorn in Decay's (already bloodied) side.
But a 20 HP wall with a PL minion behind it will still die just as quickly when a level million Fireball comes blasting in unless the PL minion has a very high PL level (can absorb all the damage).
Bad for Decay, but not useful against many other strategies. If someone wants to make their wall indestructible in a few cases but utterly killable in most others, fine by me. It's a give and take that will cut you with a rusty scisor.
