I think there might be a problem with UC (in General)
Sorry Johnny, but there might be.
I've just noticed facing a character with 150K Dexterity to my 90K that they didn't hit me once.
I have 160K trained into UC which would give me an evasion of 53K (And whatever pth rduction an evaison of 53K gives.)
My opponent has a named VB and I don't use DBs.
Thier 150K Dexterity + VB pth versus my 143K defensive dexterity + 20 (?) pth reduction. I can't understand how they didn't land a single hit.
I only attacked once per round, but I'm using a +63 weapon.
I think UC is giving too much defense. I don't know wether it's too much defensive dexterity or pth reduction, but something doesn't seem right. :/
A second fight, and for 8 melee rounds, their single attack per round didn't land. My opponent has trained Evasion, but isn't using DBs which is what I think it allowing me to land my one hit per round.
I hit The Hero of Canton twice in ranged rounds with my axbow which would bring his dx to about 25k and my dx is over 100k. I land 1 blow in mellee and the fight last about 12round (+/- 2)
Im not sure how UC works so i cant say much about it.

If there was really something wrong with UC, then Jonathan would have changed it a long time ago. After all those threads of UC... Maybe there's something we still don't know about?

What you need to know is how big is the PTH on his weapons. If it's really low then your UC evasion could dodge every hit, regardless of how small the dex gap is. The VB is small enough not to be in the top 50 blades.
I have just one thing to say:
(105) today!!!! WOOT!

Well i have post my point and what i think is wrong.

Philosopher King defeated Dogs Of War (Infernal Misfits) after 9 rounds of combat
Then again, my tank wasn't really a factor.

I was wondering if anyone has came across this problem. I trained a UC to 1,122 (0) and when I equip combat GI it does not do anything, but if I equip my corn or my leather boots to it it drops it to 208/1,122 (0). I was wondering if anyone knew why any of this was happening. Thanks for any help.
Are you using any other items that give -5 to UC? I've trained a base UC and worn a Gi and seen UC pumped to (9) (should have been 10...)
The character is Guardian2, Drakon(DS)'s. He's using a named VB, Dragon Energy Blade.

I just had on a combat GI a pair of leather boots and a corn.
Both the leather boots and Corn give -5 to your UC effect each. :) In essence, cancelling out the +10 from the Gi.
Drakon's been a great help and given me the rest of the information needed. :)
Violet Bier of Sorrows;
UC Weapon pth: +63
Trained UC: 166,330
Defensive Dex: 55,443
UC 'Evasion': 29
VB pth: +17
Evasion: 32 (forgot to ask level... I'll assume 60K)
Pixxy attacking VBoS
Pixxy has 151,351 versus 147,544 dex, or a 2-3% increase. :) Both are using 1 handed weapons, so at the least should have a 50% (possibly slightly more, but I'll leave it at 50%) chance to hit on a single dex based attack. His pth is reduced by my Evasion, leaving me +12 or a 12% reduction to his chance to hit.
Pixxy should have a 38% chance to land a single hit on me every round.
At the moment, I'm being hit a maximum of once or twice over 8/9 rounds. That's about a max of 25% chance to hit. Maybe I'm just being lucky...
VBoS attacking Pixxy
I have 92,101 versus 211,351 dex. I'm not sure how much that would lower my chance to land a single dex based blow per round, but it would be 50% at equal dex. My pth is reduced to +31 from his evasion, so that should leave me with a 31% chance of landing a weapon based hit every round, in addition to the slim chance (if any) from my dexterity.
I have hit once on every round I fought Pixxy. I don't see how this is possible.
More info. I recorded the amount of hits landed by Pixxy over 10 fights.
That's 8 out of 86 attacks, or 9.3% chance of hitting.

You didn't mention your ToA PTH....
since when does a ToA add to your pth?
April 19 2006 3:40 AM EDT
From the Wiki:
Grants a bonus to weapon PTH. PTH bonus is not linear to tattoo growth, but a ToA at level 450,000 will grant about 40-45 PTH. PTH earned at other tattoo levels is unknown.

Since early-mid 2005...
yeah right after i opened my big mouth i thought about that and went to read it lol sorry man
April 19 2006 3:43 AM EDT
I wouldn't worry about it. I'm always finding stuff that I probably should have known!
April 19 2006 3:52 AM EDT
The wiki is your friend!!
How could I forget that...
My ToA pth with my left over pth from UC is what's letting me hit once every round...
But how do we explain Pixxy's 9/10% chance to hit?
April 19 2006 4:39 AM EDT
That'll be luck!
April 19 2006 4:40 AM EDT
So do we come to any conclusions here? Is UC broken!?!? Or was somebody posting a little bit too late at night?!? LOL.
:) It was early this morning. ;)
OK, so my hitting once every round is fine, but I've just fought guardian again and wasn't hit once.
I still think UC is giving too much defense some how, I can't explain how though.
April 19 2006 5:18 AM EDT
It's a_defensive_weapon - the damage portion is so low as to be inoffensive in itself - my char hits like a girl. The evasive abilities might be a bit out of kilter but you are investing a lot of xp into it. I expect something back for my investment, otherwise I might as well go FB again.
UC is competitive this way. The people at the top end of the UC tree are showing that it can be as useful as FB or a large Morg at higher levels.
I still get the feeling that Jon was always laughing when people said UC was UNDERpowered. And now we're playing with it properly we're seeing what it was actually capable of.
Of course I'm biased!
Johnnywas, Jack of UC, London, The Universe.
(Barzoo is King of UC and I don't want to be the Queen)
Don't get me wrong, I don't mind *how* UC works now, I just can figure out how it's working as it is.
And that makes me think something is wrong with it. :(
April 19 2006 5:46 AM EDT
I'm not arguing that it 'might' be out of whack. Unfortunately I don't think it's that easy to come to a conclusion until we know more about how UC works. And I guess only Jon can tell us that one!
But in the meantime I'm going to walk around with a big sign on my head saying: ITS NOT BROKEN ;)
Guardian2 defeated Chosen of Endings (Fierce Invalids) after 8 rounds of combat
i took me a few and GL please dont go count lol i even rented a different vb lol
April 19 2006 5:53 AM EDT
See, there's no problem with UC. It just takes time and a prevailing wind. Lol!
;) I won't go look, promise!
