Should I add a minion or go NCB? (in General)

Vaynard [Fees Dirt Cheap] April 20 2006 2:58 PM EDT

I am split, and was actually leaning towards adding another minion (only was going to go cheaper option for 5.3mill since I'll never make the 13mill option). I like that I have I think the 33rd highest MPR in game, but IDK.

I have a decent enough set of gear for myself. And if my BoTH auction sells, I'll have at least 6 mill to start a NCB. Is that a good amount? You guys with large NCB's out there, how much did you have to start?

I like my current team, but the more I think about it, the better a fresh start sounds as well. So what do you guys say?

That depends solely on how much you fight.

NCB will give you a much more balanced team, likely higher MPR and according to the biggest success with the NCB (Mikel) it doesn't cost half of what I think it does.

Buying minions is REALLY REALLY expensive up high, and does add a lot unless you've got an RoS and huge AS some where else. Otherwise addtional minions become mini walls, or ToE holders.

You don't have the cash to go NCB.

Have to disagree with you there Bart. A NCB Single FB mage with a pair of AGs and some DBs and a ToE is pretty well set for life, and you dont need all that at once with rentals, except the tattoo. With the new no lost exp for inking rule, switching around a tattoo is pretty painless. The cost to opperate is nil, shoot you can go NCB single mage for REAL cheap. Try it with a named RoE :) Not as big of a splash in the PR to Score department but the rewards are pretty.

In the end a NCB is not that costly, if you are talking about buying BA costly, thats why you go single mage and you liquidate all your tank gear ;)

Seft, when you are finished, do you have the money to purchase the rest of your minions and outfit them stylishly?

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] April 20 2006 3:27 PM EDT

No but you do have a setup that can fight, which is more than you can say for some strats up high...

From there buying a high MPR team is easy. rewards are alright, and with 1 mil mpr teams going for as low as 3 mil...why NCB at all?

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] April 20 2006 3:59 PM EDT

Well here is how I look at purchasing minions, which is likely very different from the rest of the planet.

Either get them early or do not plan on getting all of them.

Here is why. If your lead minion has 9mil total exp your new minion will have 1mil exp. A gap of 8mil in exp based power. If your lead minion has 90mil total exp your new minion will have 10mil exp. A gap of 80mil. So the longer you wait, the LESS effective each minion is in power relative to your most powerful minion. The scale slides pretty steep. The longer your wait the less impact the new minion will have on your team and the more it will cost. The economies of scale are ridiculous on it.

Counter arguement is of course, yah but you get to basically purchase exp. Well if you are buying a 10mil exp minion for your 90mil exp single mage at 30mil cost to you, well you are not spending your cash wisely, let us say that. Your 10mil exp guy will end up a one spell enchanter or HP wall, otherwise you waste your time at your Peer Group PR and the difference of 90mil total exp and 100mil total exp (90mil exp single mage + new minion with 10mil exp) to your fight list will be the most egregious waste of CB2 since someone lent Monty cash.

So that is my answer to the number of minions problem, either start with all of them and let the NCB and maybe a RoE help you grow it, or go single/duo and forget the other two minions period.

Short answer Bast, yes.

Well if you had the money i'd say hire a new minion put the ToE on him and get a TSA, MgS, EC, for your Tank. Depending how much exp your hired minion has train AMF/AS on it and retrain the AMF on Stalker into a different stat. That way you still had the damage reduction from the ToE and reduced DD reduction from the TSA, MgS combo.

I will back sef on this. The only other option is to single fight a NCB with a Roe and buy thre expensive minions the moment your NCB ends.

Vay, the *only* reason to go NCB is if you will fight more in these four months than you have with your original character. If you won't, don't do it.

If you will, go for it!
