Is CB getting slow? (in General)

Shadowsparkle [Jago] April 24 2006 3:34 PM EDT

I noticed the last few days CB is getting slower. Is it just on my end or is it in general?

I also noticed at every fight CB is waiting for response from google-analytics.com. Might this the problem for the slow down?

google-analytics.com is indeed slowing many sites down. Almost bad enough to welcome it to my iptables chain...

Thanks bartjan. But you have not noticed a slow down on CB for yourself?

I hashed this out a couple of weeks ago here:

I ended up having to install a script that selectively blocks Java scripts to resolve the Google Analytics problem.

Thanks for the help via CM :)

And thanks Timberwolf. Will try if this will help me. :)

google analytics only runs at the end of the html body, so your browser already has all it needs to render the page...

that doesn't mean it's not going to sit there and wait for it...

Timberwolf April 24 2006 4:50 PM EDT

Jonathan, I installed NoScript in Firefox and tested this.
I can block the Google-Analytics script and all is well.
When I un-block(allow) it, there is a 1-2 second delay updating the fightlist while the page waits for Google-Analytics to respond.

What is this Google-Analytics script? Is it something Jon has integrated into CB, or something individual users have set up on their computers, or is it just Google trying harder to worm their way into everything?

I just wait for my score to change. That usually indicates that my request has been sent and received. Sure the fight page hasn't loaded yet, but that isn't going to stop me. Even still, the load time for my pages is a far cry from 1 or 2 seconds on average.

Timberwolf April 24 2006 5:21 PM EDT

Ok, just tested some more and, at least here on my system, the delay is caused by a combination of the GM script and Google Analytics.
With the Google script and the GM script active, there is a 1-2 second delay updating the fight list when using the GM script to fight.
Disable the Google script and the fight list updates as it usually would.
I can disable the GM script and 'C'-Enter my way right through the fightlist with no delays.

Also noteworthy, I am still using the old version of Java as my chat will not advance with any of the new (1.5) versions.

Java and Javascript are entirely different things...

Maybe people should start calling Javascript by its "official" name, Ecmascript, to stop this confusion?

Shadowsparkle [Jago] April 25 2006 4:43 AM EDT

Thanks for all responses.

I tried like Timberwolf said. I was still using Netscape and switched to Firefox now. After I installed that plug-in to block Javascripts and blocked that google script everything goes faster this morning.
Its still slower than it used to be, but if it don't get worse again I guess I can live with it.

Now I have to wait and see if it stays like this :)
