AMF question (in General)

Adminedyit [Superheros] June 11 2006 3:09 PM EDT

A quick question for you more knowledgeable people. My MM and CoC are the same size, Cone of cold: 89,049/69,570 (12,575), Magic missile: 88,331/69,552 (31,142). My question is why does AMF cause more backlash damage on the CoC than MM? They are the same size in lvl (well i dont think 18 points of exp make that much of a difference) and the number in the ( ) is higher for MM so again why more backlash for the CoC?

CoC deals a higher damage per level, I guess

Yeah, CoC deals more damage than MM at the same levels, therefore a larger backlash from AMF.

:) (Trying to rememeber...)

The AMF bcklash works on the effect of the spell, multiplied by the number of minions that spell can target.

For MM it's: 0.4 * AMF% * 12,575

For CoC it's: 0.4 * AMF% * (31,142 *5)

This is also modified by the range reduction to DD damage (as that reduces the effect of the spell). So for MM, the AMF backlash is also reduced by 30%/20%/10% until you reach melee.

If you want to test this, fight someone with AMF that both your mages can reach into melee. Record the backlash taken (without a ToE, as endurance reduces baklash and can confuse matters..) and plug it back into the formulas above.

If you get a discrepency, post it here and I'll try to figure out where I went wrong! ;)
