Zeromus June 27 2006 12:37 PM EDT

of my NUB. should i give up now? i've read through past threads about the NUB and i read that to use it effectively i need to basically sell my soul to CB 2 for approxametly 4 months. can i still compete after basically forefitting a week? what do you guys think?

QBJohnnywas June 27 2006 12:48 PM EDT

Do you know what - you can compete. Whether or not you can be number one is another matter. Most people who play aren't ever going to get to number one probably because you're right you probably do need to sell your soul. You need to almost miss no ba, bought or given each day. You can compete still though - most of my chars have been competitive, although I probably get about 8-10 hours a day worth of ba. Still feels like I'm always here but I *whisper* have a life!

Simple fact: Unless you fight every hour God sends you will not get to Number One. Matters not if you have the biggest weapons or the best strat. You need to put the hours in. Fights won with good rewards equals MPR. MPR equals power.

Not to put you off but somebody like Ranger who was number one on and off for well over a year almost missed no ba. Infact he probably missed more sleep than ba. You need to put in a lot of fighting to get your char up into the top ranks. If that's your target then make the most of your NUB but remember - you don't need to stop fighting once your bonus ends.

And also remember to play the game for the enjoyment of it. If your strat is working and you're enjoying yourself then does it matter if you are ranked 200 or 1?

I concur with Johnnywas =D

You can still sell your soul to CB2. The value of your soul is now only 'Top 30 Soul' rather than 'Top 10 Soul' Please speak to Angel of Death about where to deposit your soul. The soulless 'Top 10' are happy to see your wasted time and assure you that you will still be satisfied with your experience.

My NUB ends today :( and I have missed more than a week easily from vacations, etc. I also don't wake up every night to burn BA. I managed to stumble to (currently until the next NCB/NUB passes me) 19th on MPR.

QBJohnnywas June 27 2006 12:56 PM EDT

One other thing. It is completely possible to be competitive without any bonus at all. Again I mention Ranger who was almost unbeatable for so long: Ranger NEVER had a bonus. GBeee and his char Lorenzo - almost constantly top twenty for the past year - with the most battles fought: No bonus.

Pick your opponents wisely. Fight up as high as you can to get the best rewards. That way your char will grow more quickly. Try to buy as much BA as you can and try not to miss crazy times to build that XP and money to buy more BA.

"It is completely possible to be competitive without any bonus at all."

Only if you started in early 2005 like Ranger did.

QBsutekh137 June 27 2006 2:23 PM EDT

Come on, Johnny...even with an NCB and buying every BA, injecting cash from my previous character sale, I will end up with around 1.4 million MPR, a decent-sized tattoo (only by the generosity of a friend), some decent armor, and only around 3-4 million in cash. If I ever break into the top ten on score with that I will be surprised, much less the top five.

Is that competitive? And that is with basically throwing everything and the kitchen sink at it...

QBJohnnywas June 27 2006 2:29 PM EDT

Sut: Define competitive! I like the fight, I like to know I can beat people and work towards beating other people. I like to watch my characters grow and rise through the ranks. I consider my chars to be competitive - ok so I can't beat some of the chars up near the top but does that mean that I'm not in the game?

Jon: are you implying that players had more advantages in early 2005 than they do now, even with the bonuses? ;)

AdminJonathan June 27 2006 2:30 PM EDT

don't be dense

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] June 27 2006 2:31 PM EDT

*Slaps Johnny with a beer mat.

What Jon's saying is that if you started a new character today, without a Bonus from either the NUB or NCB, there is no way for you to be competitive... ;)

QBJohnnywas June 27 2006 2:41 PM EDT

I know, I know - note the smile on my face. :)

It is a while since I've been called dense lol, I felt like I was a having a flashback to my school days!

Course that's not entirely true GL, you could be competitive, you would just have to wait a year or so before you got there!

Trouble is with these youngsters today is they want it all right now! I remember when I was a lad. It were all fields around here as far as the eye could see. Pa gave me a stick for Christmas and it were the best toy I'd ever had.....

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] June 28 2006 3:43 AM EDT

LOL!

*Uses beer mats to beat Johnny in a beer mat flipping contest

"Course that's not entirely true GL, you could be competitive, you would just have to wait a year or so before you got there!"

While everyone else above you take a years vacation? ;)

Flamey June 28 2006 3:59 AM EDT

calm down your not going to die, its going to be okay. trust me.

the purpose to the NUB is not neccesarily get you to the top but near it or somewhere, just to give you a bonus thats it.

chilll-ax its okay.

QBJohnnywas June 28 2006 4:35 AM EDT

Nobody needs to take a holiday. You just have to realise that you will be competing with people who aren't necessarily playing yet!

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] June 28 2006 4:53 AM EDT

LOL! Reminds me of discworlds future stocks! ;)

Until we get seperate realms to play in, being competitive means the ability to reach the top spot, or at least the top ten. ;)

You just can't do that without an XP bonus of some sort, and now, even with a bonus (and a RoE) that's proving difficult!

You can limit your own competitiveness, by saying you want to beat people at 500K score or 800K or any of the other plateaus that have emerged, but honestly that's just to cover up your no longer competitive. ;)

:P

Xiaz on Hiatus June 28 2006 5:16 AM EDT

dude, most of us never had a NUB. We were NUBless, yet, still here, we are.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] June 28 2006 5:18 AM EDT

As am I.

But your character isn't really cometitive is it? If you seriously wanted to get in the top ten now, would you not start a new charcater with a bonus?

QBJohnnywas June 28 2006 5:55 AM EDT

There are a lot of other reasons it might not be possible to compete with the top ten...mostly they come under the heading 'resources'. You either need truckloads of xp - so you need to be buying as much BA as possible. Or you need massive weapons. So you need to be buying as much CB dollar as possible. And we all know where this particular point leads...........

Flamey June 28 2006 6:05 AM EDT

'if you don't have USD don't sign up' blender!!!!!!!

thats what mages are for :)
