Yeah, so, I recently set up my new PC and I'm in the process of reinstalling everything.
One of the problems I'm having is with ventrilo, a voice chat program similar to teamspeak.
On my old PC it was configured in such a way that my speakers would act as the input
and the output, so I could basically use my speakers as a microphone. However, I cannot
seem to duplicate this on the new PC, could someone with some knowledge on this kind of stuff guide me? : P
that's an interesting little hack...
And to clarify a bit more; it isn't so much that I cant configure ventrilo the same way it was before, its that the speakers just dont want to act that way anymore. The behavior was pre-configured on my old computer, so I dont know what I have to tweak to get it to do that again :)
I might be a limitation with the new sound card, sounds like something that might depend on particular hardware.

First of all, are you using the same speakers? It could possibly be speaker-unique. OR, it could be unique to the driver you had installed on the previous comp. OR...
Try settings -> control panel. Open Sounds&AudioDevices. Look through the options there.
And if all else fails, google.com. Or even easier, I bet there's a forum for ventrilo use.
/me begins shouting into his speakers. Doesn't seem to work for me either. :(

Did the new computer come with a new monitor?

I think all headphones (i would guess the same for speakers) work as microphones if plugged into the input.

All speakers work like that (but very inefficient compared to a real microphone). But generally, amplifiers are like a one way street...

Have you checked your wiring? Is the output from the speakers plugged into the microphone socket on your soundcard as well? It may be as simple as that.

But presuming you have done that - have you checked the input sensitivity settings? There may be a default setting that is too high/low to allow the speakers to actually receive your voice. At a guess I'd reckon that you need them to allow more noise through in order to pick you up properly...
