What have you been watching (in Off-topic)

I just stumbled upon one of the best movies i think ive seen all year. Its called Green Street Hooligans.

It was an action filled Drama that was great to say the least. I was very surprised to see Elijah woods star in this film. You can find more about it here.

Since i really enjoyed this film and stumbled on it by mistake. I was wondering what else have i been missing out on. So what movies would you recommend watching?
(whatever genre)

:D The name over here is just Green Street. It's about my team (although they wanted themselves distanced from the movie when they found out it was about hooliganism) West Ham United. :D

Have a look into the 'Inter City Firm', the real life Green Street Elites. :)

"This process culminated in the emergence in the early 1980s of named ‘superhooligan' gangs such as the ‘Inter City Firm' (ICF) of West Ham United, the ‘Service Crew' of Leeds, and ‘Gooners' of Arsenal, the ‘Bushwhackers' of Millwall, the ‘Baby Squad' of Leicester and the ‘Headhunters' of Chelsea. The ICF can serve as an example. They were one of the first ‘superhooligan' gangs to emerge and they chose their name in order to signify the fact that they pioneered the tactic of eschewing travel on ‘football special' trains wearing club favours, choosing, instead, the regular ‘Inter City' service and what they regarded as ‘smart' but ‘casual' clothing with no club colours in order not to advertise themselves as football fans to the police. These successful tactics spread during the early 1980s until most major crews were practicing similar techniques. (Murphy et al., 1990, p. 91)"

As for movies, if you haven't seen it, watch "The 13th Warrior" and I saw Aeon Flux last night and really enjoyed it, even though it was universally panned, even by the comics creator.

Gooners!

Layer Cake is one of the better films I've seen lately that I had missed. It's a British gangster movie, directed by the producer of Guy Ritchie's films such as Snatch, and Lock Stock.. it's very funny but dark. Very worth watching.

And in the same vein Sexy Beast, yet another British gangster movie...with Ben Kingsley (who played Gandhi) playing one of the most vicious and twisted characters I've ever seen. A beautiful but scary movie with some amazing dialogue...

There are two other films that I always recommend to people.

Near Dark. A vampire movie by Katherine Bigolow from the late Eighties. It was released at the same time as The Lost Boys and it pretty much disappeared. But it is amazing. No fangs, crucifixes, holy water or stakes, it's beautifully shot, very gruesome and also very very funny in places. The three main vampires were in Aliens, as at the time Katherine Bigolow was involved with James Cameron.

Grosse Point Blank. If you haven't seen this watch it. John Cusack plays an assassin who goes to his high school reunion. It's a very dark comedy with a fantastic Eighties soundtrack. It's probably my favourite film of all time. Some very quotable dialogue and a great cast.

Sexy Beast!!!! :D

Say Yes.
No.
Yes.
No.
Yes.
No.
Don't make me hurt you!

Or;

Don't look at me H or I'll put you in the Ground!

Or;

I'll put them out. I'll put them out in your eyes! I'll put them out, I'll chop off your hands and use them as ashtrays!

Ben Kingsly is amasing!

There's another one of my favourites; Amelie. It's a French film, so if you can't handle subtitles don't bother. It's a love story of sorts, but it's quite surreal, a little dark and almost fairytale; but thankfully not in a Disney way. It's very very lovely to watch with some fantastic moments and a beautiful soundtrack. There are also some great comedy sequences too.

The director Jean-Pierre Jeunet directed City of The Lost Children, Alien Resurrection and Delicatessen.

I've been watching all of the Zatoichi movies lately. Mrs. Monkey can't handle the Japanese with English subtitles, and thinks I have completely lost my mind whenever she hears the combination of Japanese, overly loud and dramatic music, and me laughing with entirely too much enthusiasm...

Darkwalker [Jago] July 21 2006 12:59 PM EDT

actually love (surprisingly good)
pulp fiction (cool movie)
reservoir dogs
kill bill 1 & 2
i second the part about the movie locked, stocked and barrel... that was a cool cool movie!
