I Have a suggestion (in General)

Since we have a tattoo artist which can change our tattoo's why not get like a label maker or something that can change the name of our weapons/armor for a small fee just as the artist does?

SBW July 31 2006 7:08 PM EDT

that's dumb.

Brakke Bres [Ow man] July 31 2006 7:11 PM EDT

We already have that it's called Item naming

SBW July 31 2006 7:11 PM EDT

I think he meant....changing items?

SBW July 31 2006 7:13 PM EDT

nevermind, he meant... if an item already is named... and you wanted to name it something else...there should be a thing to do that.

DAWG July 31 2006 7:19 PM EDT

Far from "dumb", SirBubbleWrap. And comments like that are very "dumb" and not necessary on posts.

I have always wanted some kind of feature like this but unable to actually work all the kinks out.

The main problem is differences in weapons would make it very difficult to determine which weapons could interchange with others.

The market would just go nuts with values of weapons dropping and make everything equal so no use in having rare items, etc... I think you get my idea.

I could probably write a book on all the pros and cons of this idea but honestly I just don't feel like it.

So again this isn't a "dumb" idea just an incredibly difficult one to really make work correctly.

DAWG July 31 2006 7:21 PM EDT

Now that I read the thread again I don't know if my interpretation of the question was correct or has everybody else just interpreted it incorrectly.

CB1 Lover, please clarify

SBW July 31 2006 7:22 PM EDT

Read my other response before you criticize DAWG

DAWG July 31 2006 7:26 PM EDT

Maybe you should not jump to insult people so quickly. I was writing my response when you posted your second one.

Dudster4 July 31 2006 7:27 PM EDT

For example: i bought a weapon Shikaku(katana)
i don't really like the name so i think it would be nice if i could change the name for a small fee, but it would keep the same name expiration date.

SBW July 31 2006 7:27 PM EDT

I read it three times at first.... put my first response down...talked to lover in chat... then he clarified things there. I did not completely understand from the post. I'm sorry for saying that's dumb, but you shouldn't criticize like that.

Dudster4 July 31 2006 7:34 PM EDT

everyone just settle down, wusaaa.

SBW July 31 2006 7:36 PM EDT

bad boys 2 for life

With the good naming does as is, and the ease of renaming items (and the added value now that they expire) this seems like a lot of work for little return. Now DAWG's idea about a weapon smith who could smelt and re-forge weapons is a little out there for CB, but could be a lot of fun. It would however make high level weapons worth much more, since they would have the added flexibility of being re-forgeable.

QBsutekh137 July 31 2006 8:05 PM EDT

I think it's a great idea.

Jonathan still gets his money, name still expires, but new owners can personalize more effectively.

And it's a nice money-sink (do we still need those?)

I can't think of a downside.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 31 2006 8:09 PM EDT

It's only 500k to add another year at this point and change the name, how much cheaper does it need to be?

QBsutekh137 July 31 2006 9:09 PM EDT

Because this would be in between name renewals. Jonathan still gets the same amount of hard cash, and people can transfer and personalize in the meantime. Obviously the naming infrastructure already exists, and expiration dates would not change.

I can understand the "who cares" angle, but when I compare upside and downside, I see some fun on the upside and no downside whatsoever. That, to me, is a good idea.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 31 2006 10:02 PM EDT

So as a meer cash sink, would realm name change pricing be about what you're looking for? I still see no reason for Jon to implement this, but if he did are we talking 150k to rename an item for those in Gondor?

QBsutekh137 July 31 2006 10:25 PM EDT

Could even be pro-rated to the amount of time left on the item...600K per year. So, if only one month left, 50K to rename... I don't know, I'm just making the specification harder. *smile*

velvetpickle July 31 2006 10:55 PM EDT

I think Jonathan would prefer you just trade in your CB for USD and send it on over to him via PayPal....

Anyone who really wants an item renamed that badly I'm sure will kick in a few hundred thousand to get it done, and actually extend the naming period.

Xanza July 31 2006 11:49 PM EDT

While its an excellent idea... Jon will never go for it, cause it would take profit from him.. lol. I'm sure he loves the game, but it does cost to maintain. ;)

Xanza July 31 2006 11:56 PM EDT

haha, sorry... Lover showed this thread to me over MSN, and I guess I dident read..

But yea, it's a good idea.. But even though I now understand what he meant, I know Jon will never go for it.. Firstly because he still would loose money, because for 1 naming you have to pay.. Then to get it changed, you still have to pay again.. So if he makes it so you only have to pay once, then to get the name changed, he would loose the second commission. :P

But yea, I think its a sweet idea... And I do think that paying another full commission just to get a name changed is pretty stupid as well.. :/ And that they expire! What's up with that!

I mean I know it costs money... For server, BW, and other stuff... But why do you have to pinch us for money.. :/ It just seems kinda stupid. lol.

oh well... I just with CB1 was back, then maby I would play. lol.

QBsutekh137 August 1 2006 12:01 AM EDT

Yes, good points, though as time goes on, more and more items will be close to their two-year max as the rich "kick in a few hundred thousand" as VP says. Naming can only go up to two years, so, depending on the item, a full PayPal rename might only gain you a few extra months.

The CB cash could even go to a special fund that Jonathan could then sell for USD to maintain the game. One reason naming costs what it does is merely to make the PayPal transaction worth it. Accepting $CB in smaller increments and then selling in larger lots might actually make Jonathan MORE money. *smile* Course, I am pretty sure Jonathan would be dead-set against any scheme that involved selling CB that way, even if it were in a special ear-marked fund.

I still like the idea for the greater ease of personalization... There are a lot of "mutt" teams around, especially at the high end, carrying all sorts of weirdly-named, inconsistently-monikered equipment... I myself have no idea who "Fred" is, or why his spirit is eternal (named SF). He will be renamed once I have another item to name with him.
