XP bug (or misunderstanding) (in General)

Recovering BA Addict August 1 2006 3:18 PM EDT

(This post was originally in the thread (well, 3rd thread) concerning my absolute dominance :) I didn't want it to get lost in all the discussion of my awesomeness, so please move comments on this potential XP problem over here.)

While I was double tapping Krang, I noticed that I was receiving quite a bit more XP than the battle summary stated. Anyone know anything about this? I should have documented it when I had the chance, but doing so now would require me to awaken the wrath of Krang once more.

Anyways, without actually stating many specific numbers other than totals, here's what happened: I fought Krang 43 times, with 13 wins and 7 draws. Victories gave me maybe 100-120 XP, losses gave maybe 0-30 XP, and I don't remember what the draws gave. I received no other XP from defending, and yet after the 43 battles, I had ~4,500 XP. After one double tap (one loss, one win), I compared my previous XP to my new XP, and it was a 282 XP difference.

Am I missing something here? Like hidden bonuses for being in the top 10? I'm aware of the removal of the reward penalty, but this seems like a bug.

Recovering BA Addict August 1 2006 3:19 PM EDT

And oh yeah, all XP figures are per minion.

Sir Leon [Soup Ream] August 1 2006 3:28 PM EDT

Maybe something to do with the NUB bonus?

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] August 1 2006 3:29 PM EDT

NUB and NCB boni are listed in the fight log correct?

Recovering BA Addict August 1 2006 3:30 PM EDT

The NUB bonus is applied to the XP earned and then shown as the actual amount of XP your minions receive in the battle summary. This was not the case here.

Recovering BA Addict August 1 2006 4:01 PM EDT

My apologies to Krang for attacking again, but I had to make sure what I stated previously is correct. Well, actually I had to do it twice since the first attempt was ruined by some defense XP. Here's what happened:

Loss: 11xp per minion
Loss: 12xp per minion
Win: 111xp per minion

Normally, I would assume this translates into 134xp per minion increase at home, but instead I received 247xp per minion. Maybe Jon could shed some light on this?

And don't worry, I'm not going to exploit this bug... I only exploit "bugs" :)

Maelstrom August 1 2006 4:09 PM EDT

Unless I'm mistaken, increases to rewards due to a clan bonus are not included in the rewards shown as received from the battle. Could this be it?

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] August 1 2006 4:12 PM EDT

that's 113 xp from clan bonus...no way.

QBJohnnywas August 1 2006 4:12 PM EDT

Looking at your fightlist, you're getting attacked whilst you're attacking Krang. People are attacking you and losing, giving you extra rewards for that period of fighting.

It may be something else but do it again and see if that is actually the case....

Recovering BA Addict August 1 2006 4:23 PM EDT

Clan bonus is included in the displayed XP.

I ensured that I got no defense XP while getting the numbers, which is why I had to do it twice.

Rubberduck[T] [Hell Blenders] August 1 2006 4:33 PM EDT

It seems to be a hidden amount of xp added after double tapping to kill someone.

3 minions starting xp per minion 2 2 0

Post battle stats display
1 loss 6 xp per minion 8 8 6
1 win 70 xp per minion 78 78 76

Actual xp at home page 125 125 123

AdminJonathan August 1 2006 5:03 PM EDT

wow, this bug goes back at least 3 years. maybe more. nice catch, Nymandus. :)

fixed.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] August 1 2006 5:06 PM EDT

Wait, so what was the actual bug?
Were we all getting too much XP?
Just from double fights? *eyes bleeding with desire to know!!*

AdminJonathan August 1 2006 5:07 PM EDT

yes, extra xp from double fights was the bug

IOW the displayed amount was the amount you *should* have gotten.

BootyGod August 1 2006 5:12 PM EDT

ummm QUESTION. Does this mean that, technically, someone with NUB could, not only match the strongest player, but by far outstrip them? And could have at any time until the fixing of the bug. Because they got extra xp and NUB was only calibrated based on what you "should" be getting?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] August 1 2006 6:13 PM EDT

I assume so. :) But no one really double taps that much do they?

{Quitter}Gah August 1 2006 6:18 PM EDT

Lol wow

Miandrital August 1 2006 6:20 PM EDT

Double tapping is worse than double dipping!

QBJohnnywas August 1 2006 6:34 PM EDT

I used to do the double tap so often and do you know what? I stopped because I managed to convince myself that I was losing rewards that way......

lol o.O

Mem August 1 2006 6:50 PM EDT

Ah, I guess it's good that I'm not fighting much any more because I've long since known about this. Not that I thought it to be a bug, but instead just an unknown advantage given to those who double fight. I would like to thank all of you who wondered why I didn't mind losing to you some. The First wouldn't be where he is without you. ;)

Rubberduck[T] [Hell Blenders] August 1 2006 7:16 PM EDT

Lol, you thought it was an "unknown advantage given to those who double fight". Seriously?

Recovering BA Addict August 1 2006 7:33 PM EDT

Admitting to exploiting an obvious bug? Can't say that's the wisest thing to do, but then again, I'm sure everyone appreciates the xp you donated to them. Also, the fact that fighting properly gives better average rewards (at least for me) and the CP hit made the bug pretty much worthless anyways , unless you don't mind taking advantage of clanmates to consistently fight artificially high. I guess that means I owe TI an apology for wasting ~100 CP today :)

Mem August 1 2006 7:40 PM EDT

Ok, well, the bug wasn't that obvious seeing as it was around for 3 years. And just because I didn't think it was a bug, but instead a part of the game, doesn't mean I was exploiting anything.

Rubberduck[T] [Hell Blenders] August 1 2006 7:47 PM EDT

Nymandus means it should have been obvious it was a bug to anyone who had discovered it and I agree. How you would assume it was a built in hidden bonus for those that double fight baffles me.

Mem August 1 2006 7:53 PM EDT

I suppose I hadn't really thought it to be a big deal. That you would suggest I'm villainous for not thinking to cry foul is ludicrous. If I'm to pay a penalty for it then get it over with. I'm past caring.

QBOddBird August 2 2006 12:34 AM EDT

No worries, I did the same thing with draws, Mem.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] August 2 2006 3:39 AM EDT

Ah! Getting Draw rewards nerfed. :D I take pride in that. ;)

Slashundhack [We Forge Our Own Stuff] August 2 2006 5:24 AM EDT

HUH was I exploiting a bug ? Never looked at my figures double tapping when you fight a guy till you beat him? Or when your finger bobbles like a twitch?

QBJohnnywas August 2 2006 6:31 AM EDT

I'd say leave Mem alone on this one. I suspect a few more people knew about this...otherwise I think we would have seen more people join in the thread. And at least Mem isn't keeping quiet about it.

But I'm imagining people sitting in corners muttering "You should have kept quiet Nymandus. Now I've lost my little secret".... ;)

That's not to say that people would knowingly exploit a bug of course. I would never suggest that. But some people may have thought it was a secret gift from Jon or Santa or the Easter Bunny. Yes. Something like that....

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] August 2 2006 7:05 AM EDT

Must resist urge to go look at fight logs for people double tapping! >;)

Name and shame! :P

Recovering BA Addict August 2 2006 10:14 AM EDT

I never really understood why people would double tap me like madmen, but I'm assuming it will become a less used practice now. This goes both ways for me, since it means less free rewards, but also most likely slightly higher CPs as well as less fluctuation in my score.

My apologies to Mem if my post came off a little harsh... I was slightly intoxicated :)

AdminNightStrike August 21 2006 10:12 PM EDT

I agree with Mem... If I had seen it prior to this thread, I would easily have thought it was supposed to be that way. You get a giant score hike for "double tapping", so I would not take it as odd to see that there was an XP "bonus". I would have given it the same amount of thought as "Will it rain, do you think?"

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] August 22 2006 1:42 AM EDT

I think this was less a bug and more a relic of days gone by...
I remember documentation suggesting double attacking to gain better rewards...
