Strategy Discussion: Making a Dodgewall More Useful (in General)

Radiskulle August 21 2006 2:43 PM EDT

So I am looking to make the dodgewall that I currently have on my character Radiskulle more useful than he already is. Currently, he is specing evasion, hp, dispel magic, and vamp aura in roughly equal amounts. Naturally, he has some light AC gear so I can have DB's, corn for bonus to my enchantments, and some elven stuff to enhance the evasion and override the corn penalty. The fun part is that he is also getting massive dex from haste so that he has equal dex as my main damage dealing tank. My question is: How do I make him more useful than just a dodgewall (if at all possible)?

With the help of PL, this minion is typically alive at the end of a battle, so I can get a lot of rounds out of him. I have found base decay to be more destructive to myself than its worth thanks to the joy that is AMF. I was thinking an axbow might be a bit handy since he'd be able to get a lot of hits in... but is the dx drain related to the damage inflicted or to the X on the weapon? If it is damage, then the measely strength I could give him would not prove that effective. Then I also considered vorpal blade... but that would only be effective if the AC/endurance cutting effects would enhance damage of my main damage dealer (anyone know if it effects just damage from vorpal blade or all damage vs. the minion struck by vorpal blade?). The other consideration would be UC... but I have very little understanding of how UC works... would I get more or less evasion using UC? Also, would a level 75k-ish UC do any noticeable damage with low ST? Just how big of a penalty is the -5 to UC from the corn?

Any thoughts/comments are encouraged, and thank you in advance for any constructive input.

Unless you're planning on putting ST into the equation I wouldn't bother with UC for him. Actually unless you're planning on doing that I'd think twice about equipping any weapons on him. You could build up a lowish strength and put a bow and melee weapon of some description on him to take care of enchanters.
But if your main damage dealer is doing his job you probably don't need another .

As a dodgewall he is probably the most effective he will be. The evasion you have is much better than the evasion you would get from UC.

(UC as a skill is made up of the UC weapon and the UC evasion. Easier to understand if you consider it both your wall and your tank rolled into one. Damage is a lot lower than the average tank but as the UC guy can dodge most physical attacks that doesn't matter. He can kill but he takes longer to do it. Mage teams are the problem where UC is concerned generally.)

Personally I would keep him as he is. If the strat is working anything else is just tweaks. Tweaks are sometimes irresistable but sometimes you're much better off sticking with what you have! :)

Re Axbow:
Based on the X, not the damage done
Re VB:
40% reduction only applies to VB (not completely sure, but kinda)
Re UC:
Back when UC was essentially like a 75x1 +1 for a UC effect of 1, a minus 5 penalty was rather large, however, now I have no clue. I dont think UC would help much.

Best option imo: Axbow/Exbow

I wish there was a way to see how much dex the axbow is draining... I have tried equipping an axbow on the wall and get (of course) very little damage... but hit 2-3 times per round. If the dex drain is noticeable, that could add up pretty quickly, but it doesn't display how much dex is drained or the enemy's ending stats >.< Anyone know of a way I could quantify how effective the axbow is in this case?

I believe it is 1/33% per X. So x3300 would be a complete drain. (based off the changelog)

having 75k UC without training ST is like having 75k ST with a x1 dagger. Actually it's not a good analogy but the point is, it's pointless if you want it to deal damage :P

You are better off training 75k evasion.
